How to knit edge stitches in double knitting

In this DROPS Video we show how to knit your edge sts in two different ways on your double knitted project.

First how to work them on every row for a tight edge. Then we show how to slip the edge sts, for a looser decorative edge.

Both methods will connect the sides so piece is closed each side. Look carefully how we twist/place the strands before working next row.

This doesn’t work for me. The edges are not connecting together. Is there a close up still picture showing how to connect the two yarns for a joined edge? I do much better with step by step pictures than video.

Dear Rami, at the end of row, knit last stitch first color (here red) then purl last stitch 2nd color (here green) then cross yarns (time code 0:08) then turn and knit first stitch (here green) and purl fist stitch (here red) and continue row as before. Happy knitting!

Do you have a video or trick if I have to change color when starting a new row? I have tried both methods, but either I get a small knot (twisting twice on the first method), or the "wrong" color shows on the wrong side, on the second method.

Dear Nanna, we only have this video for edge stitches in double knitting, but you can even try to just knit the edge stitches just as the other one, so in stocking stitch.Your yarn store might have any suggestion they would share, even per mail or telephone. Happy knitting!

Bonjour Mme Audry-Bastien, quelle que soit la main dans laquelle vous avez votre fil, vous pouvez tricotez comme dans la vidéo en suivant le chemin du fil sur l'aiguille (pas sur le doigt). Essayez de placer vos 2 fils sur l'index droit et de tricoter alternativement une couleur puis l'autre, sans bouger les doigts, si vous devez lâcher les fils, alors pensez à décroiser les pelotes pour éviter les noeuds. N'hésitez pas à contacter votre magasin, on pourra peut être vous donner encore une autre astuce. Bon tricot!

In this DROPS video we show how to make an invisible bind off when using double knitting. To match the invisible cast on you will have to make a kitchener stitching at the end of your work. How to knit a pattern in double knitting

In this DROPS video we show how to knit a pattern in double knitting. In double knitting every other stitch belongs to the front and every other to the back. In this video we have a red and a green side, i.e stitches are red and green alternating and you should look at them as pairs. In our example we work a very basic pattern, where you work the stitches in opposite colors. So when we come to the 1st stitch marked in chart, that means next 2 stitches should be switching colors. We therefore work the first stitch red instead of green on the green side, and the following stitch we work green instead of red. On the next row where we shall switch 3 stitches in a row, that means 6 stitches should be worked alternating. We did not use stitch markers in our video, but for some more complicated patterns it can be a good help.

In this DROPS video we show how to do a two colour bind off in double knitting. To best match the two color cast on, you want to work a bind off like this on your finished double knitted project. Holding the 2 strands together, knit first 2 sts together, *k2tog through the back loops, then slip the 2nd st on right needle over 1st. Repeat from * across, after last stitch has been slipped over, cut yarn and pull through. Weave in ends.

In this DROPS video we show how to work an I-cord edge both from the right side and from the wrong side. In this video the 6 first / 6 last stitches after the I-cord edge are worked in garter stitches (= the stitches are knitted on every row). At the beginning of the row from the right side, work like this: Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1, work 6 garter stitches. Work stockinette stitch.
