Gauge: 23 sts x 30 rows on larger needles in pattern = 10 x 10 cm .

Pattern: See chart. The pattern is shown from the right side and is knit entirely in stockinette stitch.

Border: Knit 3 cm stockinette stitch, purl 1 row (for folding edge. Measure the work from here), knit 3 cm stockinette stitch, purl 1 row. Fold the edge over and sew.

Body: Knit the cardigan in the round after the border with a steek at the center front.
Cast on 240 (264-288) sts on smaller circular needles with marine and knit Border back and forth on the needles. Change to larger circular needles, cast on 5 sts at the center front (these sts are for center front steek and are not knit into the pattern). Join and knit Pattern 1 in stockinette st.
When the work measures 27 (30-34) cm , knit the next row as follows: 116 (128-140) sts (+ 5 steek sts) for the front, bind off 4 sts for armhole, 116 (128-140) sts for the back, bind off 4 sts for armhole. Knit the front and back separately from this point.

Front: 116 (128-140) sts (+ 5 steek sts). Bind off for armholes at each side every other row: 3 sts 2 (3-4) times, 2 sts 3 (3-4) times, 1 st 2 (3-4) times. 88 (92-92) sts (+ 5 steek sts). At the same time, after Pattern 1, knit the rest with dark purple. When the work measures 42 (46-50) cm , bind off the center front 24 (26-26) sts (+ 5 steek sts) for the neck and knit the work back and forth on the needles. Bind off at each neck edge every other row: 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 2 times. Bind off when the work measures 50 (54-58) cm .

Back: Knit like the front but bind off for the neck when the work measures 48 (52-56) cm . Bind off the center 28 (30-30) sts for the neck. Bind off at each neck edge every other row: 2 sts 1 time. Bind off when the work measures 50 (54-58) cm .

Sleeves: Cast on 52 (56-58) sts on smaller double pointed needles with marine. Join, being careful not to twist the sts. Place a marker at the join and knit Border. Change to larger double pointed needles and knit Pattern 2 (center the pattern on the sleeve). When the work measures 5 cm , inc 1 st each side of the marker 27 (27-26) times every 4th row. 106 (110-110) sts. After Pattern 2 knit the rest with dark purple.
When the work measures 46 (45-43) cm , bind off 2 sts on each side of the marker. Then bind off for sleeve caps on each side every other row: 2 sts 3 times, 1 st 7 (10-15) times, 2 sts 2 times, 4 sts 2 times. Bind off. The work measures approximately 56 (57-58) cm .

Assembly: Sew a marker in the center of the steek sts at the center front. Sew two machine seams around the marker, 1st seam = 1/2 st from the marker, 2nd seam = 1/2 st from first seam. Cut steek for the center front. Sew shoulder seams.
Pick up approximately 110 sts along the left front on smaller needles with marine and knit Border back and forth on the needles. Repeat along the right front. Fold the edges over against the wrong side and sew. Pick up approximately 130 sts around the neck and over the placket on smaller circular needles with marine, and knit Border, for 2 cm instead of 3 cm . Sew the sleeves to the body. Sew the hooks on over the uppermost 25-28 cm .
