RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth):
1 ridge = Knit 2 rows.

Insert 1 marker in the middle stitch on the row.
ROW 1 (= wrong side): Knit.
ROW 2 (= right side): Knit until there is 1 stitch left before the marker, slip 2 stitches as if to knit together, knit 1, pass the 2 slipped stitches over the knitted stitch, knit to end of row.
Repeat rows 1 and 2 - in this way you decrease 2 stitches in the middle of the square every 2nd row (i.e. every row from the right side) until there is 1 stitch left on the needle. Cut the strand and pull it through this stitch.

Work 3 rows with golden rod, then continue working with medium blue.

The piece is worked back and forth. The flag consists of 4 domino squares sewn together to make one square. Then you work back and forth out from two sides of the square. The head band is sewn together mid back.

Cast on 17-19 stitches with needle size 4 mm and golden rod. Work DOMINO SQUARE in STRIPES – see description above. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Work a total of 4 domino squares. Lay the 4 domino squares edge to edge so that the cast on edges on all 4 squares make a cross. Sew the sides together 2 and 2; sew in the outermost loop of the outermost stitch.
Knit up from the right side, with medium blue, 17-19 stitches evenly spaced along the one side of the square. Knit 1 row from the wrong side. Change to golden rod and work GARTER STITCH – see description above. When the piece measures 25-26 cm from the middle of the flag, cast off. Knit up and work on the other side of the square in the same way. Sew the cast off edges together – sew in the outermost loop so that the seam is flat.
