SLIPPER:

LEG:
Cast on 34-38-42-46-50-54 sts on double pointed needles size 3.5 mm with Merino Extra Fine. Work rib K 1/P 1 in the round until piece measures approx. 5 cm. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION

FOOT:
Now keep the first 13-13-13-15-15-15 sts on the round on the needle, slip the remaining 21-25-29-31-35-39 sts on 1 stitch holder. Continue rib back and forth over the 13-13-13-15-15-15 sts, AT THE SAME TIME on 1st row cast on 1 new st in each side (edge st) = 15-15-15-17-17-17 sts. When 7-7½-8½-9-9½-10½ cm have been worked on foot, dec 1 edge st in each side = 13-13-13-15-15-15 sts. Then slip the sts from stitch holder back on needle and pick up 15-16-18-19-20-22 sts on each side of middle part (inside 1 edge st) = 64-70-78-84-90-98 sts on needle. NOW MEASURE PIECE FROM HERE. Insert 1 marker mid front of toe and 1 marker mid back on heel. Continue in the round with rib as before for 2 cm. Now finish in stocking st - AT THE SAME TIME K 2 tog on each side of every marker on every other round (= 4 sts less per round), continue dec until piece measures 3-3-4-4-5-5 cm - cast off. Sew seam under foot in outer loops of edge sts to avoid a chunky seam.

Knit another slipper the same way.

I used the Kitchener Stitch to finish the bottom of my slippers. This Stitch makes it possible for the bottom of the slippers to have no sewn edge, no ridge to step on while wearing them. Thank you for the pattern. I am very happy to have these to wear in Maine, it's been a cold winter. You can find the stitch on youtube. Happy knitting, Laurie
