How to work a purl (P) stitch ( Norwegian method)

In this DROPS video we show how to work a purl (P) stitch the Norwegian way.

This is an old traditional way to purl, commonly used in Norway, but also used in other Scandinavian countries.

You must read the pattern to be able to follow. You’ll find patterns where you can use this technique by clicking on the pictures below.

Moc díky za návod. Učila jsem se nejprve kontinentální způsob, u něj jsem si málem zamotala prsty, tak potom zjednodušené obrace, ale tam mi ne vždy vyhovuje druhá strana. Když jsem tento způsob viděla poprvé, přišlo mi to nějak moc kroucení. Nicméně po vyzkoušení musím říct, že tohle je to, co jsem potřebovala, mít přízi celou dobu za prací a s jehlicí jen obtančit. Stačilo pár upletených ok a měla jsem to v ruce :)

As a continental knitter I always hated that while I can do a knit stitch with just the right hand needle I still have to "guide" the working yarn with my thumb for a purl. But this magic trick solves the "issue" of that. Thanks a lot! (BTW for some reason England/UK/Great Britain disappeared from the countries list...)

How to cast on with the continental method

There are different methods to cast on. In this DROPS video we show one of the most common methods that gives a firm but still elastic edge. It’s called the continental method. The cast on should be firm but not too hard. If you feel it becomes too tight you can use larger needles or cast on around two needles and then pull one needle out afterwards.
