For this dress can I use a silk or bamboo yarn or both ? Am looking for a very light weight yarn for the summer since it gets really hot and humid where I live thank you 😊

Dear Anna, yes, you can use other lighter yarns, but you need to make sure that the gauge matches and calculate the amount of yarn needed according to your yarn's yardage. You can read more about this in this lesson. Happy knitting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- I-CORD: BEGINNING OF ROW: Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1. END OF ROW: Work until there are 2 stitches left on the row, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1. Work in the same way from both the right and wrong side. INCREASE TIP-1: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, which is worked as follows on the next row (wrong side): AFTER 3 STITCHES: Purl through the back loop to avoid a hole. Then work the new stitch in stocking stitch. BEFORE 3 STITCHES: Slip the yarn over off the left needle and replace it twisted (insert the left needle through the back when replacing it). Purl through the front loop to avoid a hole. Then work the new stitch in stocking stitch. INCREASE TIP-2: Increase 1 stitch on each side of the 4-4-7-7-10-10 stitches under the armhole as follows: Work to marker-thread-1, move this marker onto the right needle, make 1 yarn over, work to marker-thread-2, make 1 yarn over, move this marker onto the right needle, work the 4-4-7-7-10-10 stitches to marker-thread-3, move this marker onto the right needle, make 1 yarn over, work to marker-thread-4, make 1 yarn over, move this marker onto the right needle and work to end of round (= 4 increased stitches). On the next round work the yarn overs as follows: AFTER MARKER-THREADS 1 AND 3: Knit through the back loop to avoid a hole. Then work the new stitch in stocking stitch. BEFORE MARKER-THREADS 2 AND 4: Slip the yarn over off the left needle and replace it twisted (insert the left needle through the back when replacing it). Knit through the front loop to avoid a hole. Then work the new stitch in stocking stitch. ROUND CAST-OFF (stitches are picked up from the right side and the casting-off gives a round (but not rolled) edge on the wrong side): Find the stitch 2 rounds below the first stitch. Pick this stitch up through the top loop (from the right side) and place it on the left needle. Knit together this loop and the next stitch. * Pick up the next stitch in the same way and knit it together with the next stitch on the needle. Cast off by passing stitch-1 over stitch-2 *. Repeat from *-* until all stitches are cast off. Cut and fasten the strand. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- DRESS - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The front and back pieces are started separately, back and forth and top down. The pieces are joined and the body and skirt are finished in the round. A belt is worked to finish. RIGHT FRONT SHOULDER: Cast on 10-10-11-11-12-12 stitches with DROPS Cotton Light or DROPS Muskat and needle size 4 mm. Purl 1 row. ROW 1 (right side): Work 2 stitches according to I-CORD – read explanation above, knit to end of row. ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl until there are 2 stitches left, work 2 stitches according to I-cord. Work these 2 rows until the piece measures 5-5-5-6-6-6 cm, with the last row from the right side. Cut the strand, lay the piece to one side and work the left front shoulder. LEFT FRONT SHOULDER: Cast on 10-10-11-11-12-12 stitches with DROPS Cotton Light or DROPS Muskat and needle size 4 mm. Purl 1 row. ROW 1 (right side): Knit until there are 2 stitches left, work 2 stitches according to I-cord. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work 2 stitches according to I-cord, purl to end of row. Work these 2 rows until the piece measures 5-5-5-6-6-6 cm, with the last row from the right side. On the next row from the wrong side stitches are cast on for the front piece, between the 2 shoulders, as follows: Work as before across the left shoulder from the wrong side (= 10-10-11-11-12-12 stitches), cast on 56-58-58-60-60-62 stitches, work across the right shoulder as before from the wrong side (= 10-10-11-11-12-12 stitches) = 76-78-80-82-84-86 stitches. FRONT PIECE: = 76-78-80-82-84-86 stitches. Continue back and forth with stocking stitch and 2 stitches I-cord on each side until the piece measures 15-13-13-13-11-10 cm from the cast-on edge on the shoulder. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. Now increase for the armholes, inside 3 stitches on each side as follows: Work 2 stitches I-cord, knit 1, make 1 yarn over, work until there are 3 stitches left, make 1 yarn over, knit 1 and 2 stitches I-cord (= 2 increased stitches). On the next row work the yarn overs as described under INCREASE TIP-1. Increase like this every 2nd row (each row from the right side) a total of 3-5-7-9-12-15 times = 82-88-94-100-108-116 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch and 2 stitches I-cord on each side until the piece measures 17-17-18-19-20-21 cm from the shoulder. Cut the strand, lay the piece to one side and work the back piece. BACK PIECE: Work in the same way as the front piece. When the back and front pieces are the same length, they are joined and continued in the round. Work the next row from the right side as follows (without 2 stitches I-cord on each side): Knit the 82-88-94-100-108-116 stitches on the back piece, cast on 2-4-7-11-16-20 stitches under the armhole, knit the 82-88-94-100-108-116 stitches from the front piece, cast on 2-4-7-11-16-20 stitches = 168-184-202-222-248-272 stitches. BODY: = 168-184-202-222-248-272 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch in the round. Insert 2 marker-threads under each armhole (4 marker-threads) with 4-4-7-7-10-10 stitches between the 2 marker-threads; these are used when increasing for the skirt. The beginning of the round is on one side. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the 4-4-7-7-10-10 stitches under the armhole. Work until the piece measures 32-34-36-38-40-42 cm from the shoulder. Now increase for the skirt, by making 1 yarn over by each marker-thread (= 4 increased stitches) – read INCREASE TIP-2. Increase on each side of the stitches under the armholes so there are always 4-4-7-7-10-10 stitches between the increases. Increase like this every 2 cm a total of 10-10-10-11-10-11 times = 208-224-242-266-288-316 stitches. Then increase every 4 cm 9-11-11-10-10-9 times = 244-268-286-306-328-352 stitches. Work until the dress measures 105-108-111-114-117-119 cm lying flat. When worn the dress will stretch to approx. 114-117-120-123-127-129 cm. Try the dress on and work to desired length. Work ROUND CAST-OFF – read explanation above, or cast off with alternate knit and purl. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams. BELT: Work a belt of tube-knit as follows: Cast on 3 stitches with double pointed needles size 4 mm. Knit 1 row. * Push all the stitches to the right-hand side of the needle without turning, tighten the strand and knit all 3 stitches again *, work from *-* until the belt measures 3-3-3½-3½-4-4 metres or to desired length. Cast off. |
