This is a confusing pattern. Would love it if you could simplify it. Such a cute hat but can’t follow the instructions. Thanks

As a result of a discussion on the Knitting Paradise forum, I am making this hat. After a few false starts, mine is coming along well. I’m very happy with this design. Progress photos on Ravelry. Thank you for your patience.

Dear Mrs Hoffman, divide 132 (total number of stitches on needle) by 34 (number of sts to decrease) = 3.88 - This mean you will alternately work together every 3rd and 4th and every 4th and 5th st, making sure you will work K2 tog a total of 34 times on the round - see ex. 2 in this lesson. Happy knitting!

First decrease is 34 decreases on 132 stitches. Yet your tip says measure by 98 stitches. Do you mean decrease every 2-3 inches based on the number if stitches you want AFTER the decreases?
02.12.2022 - 01:12DROPS Design answered:
Hi Judy, You start with 132 stitches and decrease 34 stitches evenly around the hat. 132 - 34 = 98 stitches remaining. Happy knitting!

I am working on the dublin town hat, 225-29. I am struggling with a part of the directions when you begin decreasing with a slip stitch. I understand 1 decease after each marker snd every other round but it says for a total of 10-11 times. Does that mean I have 10 to 11 rounds decreasing using the every other round which would make it 20-22 rounds. Then the next round 2-2 times is vague also. Please help.
29.11.2022 - 01:39DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Sparks, you will decrease like this: *work 1 round decreasing 7 sts, work 1 round without decrease*, and work these 2 rounds a total of 10 times (first size) or 11 times (larger size); then decrease on next 2 rounds (2 times on every round). Happy knitting!

I am currently work on the Dublin Town hat. It is worked from bottom up. The edge is not consistent with the picture of a rolled knitted edge which really makes the hat. I have invested in the Alaska Drops yarn to be sure I could have a good results. I fear this pattern is missing some directions for a knitted edge to create the roll.
26.11.2022 - 03:20DROPS Design answered:
Dear Cathleen, the rib stitch will not roll initially, but it should start rolling once you start working the stocking stitch in the upper part of the hat. If it still doesn't roll, then the rib stitch isn't too tight and you need to start again with a tighter gauge. Happy knitting!

Hi Good Morning, I have just purchased Drops Alaska and it says to use needle size 5mm but the Dublin Hat pattern says 3.25 mm. That's a big difference in needle size. Can you explain please. Thank you. Kind regards Noeleen
27.02.2022 - 09:52DROPS Design answered:
Dear Noeleen, the most important thing is not the needle size, but rather the gauge. The texture of this hat is quite tight, to keep its shape. So it needs to be worked more tightly, with a higher than usual gauge. That is why it's different from the one stated in general for the yarn. In any case, when in doubt, you should follow the gauge indicated in the pattern always. The size indicated is 3.5 mm, but you may need a bigger or smaller needle, depending on your own gauge. Happy knitting!

Good morning, I love the look of this hat. On the picture it shows knit rows then rib, but on the pattern it doesn’t mention any knit rows at the beginning. Can you please advise, thank you
20.01.2022 - 09:35DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Dainty, you start the hat with a ribbing edge, but at the end, you will fold up the rib to the right size, ie on the picture ribbing edge is folded over. Happy knitting!

------------------------------------------------------- START ARBEIDET HER: ------------------------------------------------------- HATT – KORT OVERSIKT OVER ARBEIDET: Arbeidet strikkes rundt på rundpinne, nedenfra og opp. Bytt til settpinner når det er felt nok masker. HATT: Legg opp 132-140 masker på rundpinne 3,5 med DROPS Alaska. Strikk vrangbord rundt (= 2 rett / 2 vrang) i 2 cm. Strikk videre i glattstrikk til arbeidet måler 7 cm. HUSK PÅ STRIKKEFASTHETEN! På neste omgang felles det 34-35 masker jevnt fordelt – les FELLETIPS-1 = 98-105 masker. Strikk videre i glattstrikk. |
