Come lavorare a Fair Isle (2 colori) - Metodo UK/US

Keywords: diagramma, multicolore, strisce,

In questo video DROPS vi mostriamo come lavorare a Fair Isle (lavoro a 2 colori) usando il metodo US/UK.

I am confused! According to the pattern visible in the tutorial above for UK style Fair Isle knitting, the line that is being worked (highlighted in fluoro yellow) starts with two green stitches. However, the knitter knits the first three stitches in green. I don’t understand how this can be.

DROPS Design answered:

Dear Mrs Lewis, in the video, we are working the diagram with 1 edge stitch worked in garter stitch on each side, reason why you can see 3 sts in green on the right side (only 2 in diagram, on the row before the one in yellow) and 2 sts green on the left side (just 1 stitch at the end of the row before the one in yellow). Happy knitting!

On the Scarborough vest, how are the decreases done on the chart. Are you decreasing at the beginning of each repeat?

DROPS Design answered:

Dear Connie, the decreases on the diagram, represented with a triangle, are worked at the beginning of each repeat. Happy knitting!

Bon tricot!

All sorted. English patterns normally denote each size on the chart (clearly marked) and knit and pearl rows. Managed to work out the pattern in the end and jumper coming on nicely. Many thanks

I am knitting size X1 of this pattern and I cannot get the chart to work out. If there are 16 stitches per pattern (repeated) this does does not divide into the 339 stitches that I have on the needle. Thanks

DROPS Design answered:

Dear Mrs Hart, could you please ask your question on the pattern you are working on? It would be much easier for us to help you :) thanks for your comprehension!

I am a uk knitter and this is not the traditional way we knit fair isle. We hold one yarn in left hand and one in right. I have never seen anyone here doing colourwork the way shown in the video. It would be nice if you created a more accurate video, but I do love your patterns, wools and website, and usually the videos too.

17.11.2014 - 00:16

DROPS Design answered:

Dear Agnes, there are different ways to hold the yarn when working fair isle, this is just one of the way to do this, some knitters work with 2 strands in the same hand, some others with 1 strand in each hand.. Happy knitting!

Why does the knitter keep picking up each yarn separately, so slow. The yarn can be carried on the first and second fingers of the right hand as fast fair isle knitters do in uk. Just carrying yarn in right hand instead of left as in continental knitting.

The background or white blocks on the chart is the green yarn. The pink yarn is where the x's are making the pattern on the chart. If you're a novice, try doing a hat or something in the round with one color in each hand. Good Luck!

Debra, All sts in this video are worked into the front of the stitch.
