I would like to use drops melody for a retro mohair pattern. Pattern uses 5mm needles for body of garment. Would Drops Melody be a good substitute please?

Dear Hoffy, it will depend on the gauge. Compare the gauge asked in the pattern to the gauge with Melody (if you have a sample to try out) and see if it fits. If it doesn't, you could still try working the pattern but one size smaller (so that you can get the measurements for your size with less stitches). Happy knitting!

What does sm mean in a pattern!
31.10.2021 - 14:25DROPS Design answered:
Dear Bonnie, it could be a typo and be slm, which means to slip the marker stitch. In case it doesn't seem like it, it would be easier to tell you the meaning if you could indicate to us the pattern number with the abbreviation; then we could check if it is or isn't a typo.

I very much like the pattern DROPS 86-31 of a long-sleeved bolero/shrug but want to knit it in a non-fluffy textured double knitting wool. Have you any suggestions on how I can calculate the number of stitches required? A swatch I knitted with 5mm needles and double knitting wool created a 3 in x 3 in square using 15 stitches and 19 rows. Thanks, Kay.

Dear Mrs Jackson, Night at the Opera Shrug is worked with DROPS Symphony = yarn group D and you can replace 1 strand yarn group D with 2 strands yarn group B - read more here and do not hesitate to contact your DROPS store for any further individual assistance choosing the right yarn.
