How to sew mattress stitches
This is a common way of seaming together side-to-side pieces - like side seams on sweaters. In the video we use a contrasting color yarn so it's easy to see what we are doing. If the tail from casting on is long enough use it to seam. Mattress stitching is done in the space between the edge stitch and the stitch next to it.
Lay the pieces side by side with the right side facing you.
Pull the edge stitch slightly away from the stitch next to it so that you can see the bar between the edge st and the next st. Insert your yarn needle under the bar. Pull the yarn through the bar and then insert the needle under the bar on the other piece. Work back and forth, inserting the needle under the bar on one piece then the other piece. As you go along you can pull the yarn in the direction of the seam and the pieces will be joined with an invisible seam.

Ja dit zou in principe niet uit moeten maken. Als je heel dik garen hebt zou je er eventueel voor kunnen kiezen om met dunner garen van dezelfde kleur de naad in elkaar te zetten. Op die manier zijn je naden wat minder dik.

Bonjour Christine, vous pouvez utiliser cette technique pour une couture en "longueur", pour des coutures de type épaules, vous pouvez faire soit simplement une couture de ce type, soit alterner cette couture et celle-ci, sur du jersey envers. Bon assemblage!

Buongiorno Lilyj, può tranquillamente procedere nello stesso modo del video usando il filo di chiusura: tirando bene il filo, il punto d'inizio sarà minimamente visibile. Buon lavoro!

Bonjour, je suis débutante en tricot et je me pose une question (peut-être bête). Quelle que soit la méthode d'assemblage, faut-il faire un nœud au début et à la fin de la couture ou simplement rentrer les fils (est-ce suffisant pour que cela tienne ). S'il faut faire un nœud, comment faire pour que ce soit discret (sur une écharpe composée de plusieurs carrés par exemple) ? D'avance, merci
