Pattern instructions

NOTE: This pattern is written in American English. All measurements in charts are in cm. For conversion from inches to cm - click here. There are different terms for crocheting in American and British English. If this pattern includes crochet, click for "crochet terms" here. For this pattern in British English, please click here.
CROCHET INFO:
Replace first tr at beg of every tr row with 4 ch.
At beg of every sc row beg row with 1 ch - this ch DOES NOT replace first sc.
At the end of every row with sc or tr work last sc/tr in first sc or in 4th ch from beg of previous row (depending on whether previous row was sc or tr).

PATTERN:
See diagrams A.1 to A.3. When rows 1-5 has been worked 1 time, repeat rows 2-5 onwards.

MEASURING TIP:
Because of the weight of the yarn all measurements must be done by holding the piece up otherwise the scarf will be too long when worn.
---------------------------------------------------------

SCARF:
Worked back and forth.
Crochet 110 ch on hook size 4 mm / G/6 with Baby Merino. Work first row as follows from RS: Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, * skip ch 1, 1 sc in each of the next 3 ch *, repeat from *-* the entire row = 82 sc.
READ CROCHET INFO and work 1 row with tr, 1 row with sc, 1 row with tr and 1 row with sc (work 1 tr/sc in every st from previous row).
Work next row as follows from WS: Work A.1 (= 4 sc), work pattern according to diagram A.2A until 6 sc remain on row (= 6 repetitions), work A.2B (= 2 sc) and finish with A.3 (= 4 sc), i.e. work as follows:
ROW 1 (= WS): ch 1, 1 sc in each of the first 4 sc (= edge), * 1 sc in each of the next 2 sc, ch 6, skip 4 sc *, repeat from *-* until 6 sc remain on row and finish with 1 sc in each of the last 6 sc (the last 4 sc = edge), turn piece.
Continue pattern as shown in diagram, i.e. work as follows:
ROW 2 (= RS): 4 ch (= 1 tr), 1 tr in each of the next 5 sc, * ch 3, 1 sc around ch-space, ch 3, 1 tr in each of the next 2 sc *, repeat from *-* until 4 sc remain on row and finish with 1 tr in each of the last 4 sc, turn piece.
ROW 3: 4 ch (= 1 tr), 1 tr in each of the next 3 tr, * 1 tr in each of the next 2 tr, ch 4, 1 sl st in sc, 4 ch *, repeat from *-* until 6 tr remain on row and finish with 1 tr in each of the last 6 tr, turn piece.
ROW 4: ch 1, 1 sc in each of the first 6 tr, * ch 5, 1 sc in each of the next 2 tr *, repeat from *-* until 4 tr remain on row, 1 sc in each of the last 4 tr, turn piece.
ROW 5: ch 1, 1 sc in each of the first 4 sc, * 1 sc in each of the next 2 sc, 6 ch *, repeat from *-* until 6 sc remain on row, finish with 1 sc in each of the last 6 sc.
Repeat rows 2-5 in diagram. REMEMBER THE CROCHET GAUGE!
When piece measures approx. 216 cm / 85'' - finish after row 4 or 5 in pattern and READ MEASURING TIP, work 1 row with sc, i.e. work 1 sc in every sc from previous row and 4 sc around every ch-space = 82 sc, turn piece. Work 1 row with tr, 1 row with sc, 1 row with tr and 1 row with sc. Fasten off, piece measures approx. 220 cm / 87''.

Hello, I don't understand If I have to first create a border with alternating rows of sc and TR or if Row 1 is really the beginning . I don't understand : work next row as follow ws: ....and than it starts as row 1. Where do I actually start after I have 82 ch. And, I do I make the bottom boarder that I see in the picture? Thank you

DROPS Design 13.12.2017 kl. 10:25:

Dear Sofia, after fundation chain, crochet 1st row skipping chains evenly to get 82 sc. Then work 1 row tr, 1 row sc, 1 row tr, 1 row sc (= bottom edge). Now work diagrams on next row starting on row 1 in each diagram: A.1 (= 4 sc), repeat A.2A (= worked over 12 sts) until 6 sts remain, work A.2B (= 2 sc), and finish with A.3 (= 4 sc). Happy crocheteing!
