For the life of me I cannot understand reading the pattern and graph for this project. M1 P3 repeat. Then M1 then M2 until desired measurement. What does this mean? Is the graph read by rows? As M1 graph is knit 4 rows then a pattern row then knit 3 rows? Where does the P3 play into this? Or do I follow the graph with knit 4 then P3 and repeat for that row?
05.02.2017 - 10:08DROPS Design answered:
Dear Janit, you have to work first the row 1 in both patterns, ie M.1 + M.2, when the 8 rows in both patterns have been worked 1 time in height, repeat both diagrams from row 1. Read more about diagrams here. Happy knitting!

Pattern: See diagram M.1 and M.2. Diagram shows 1 pattern repeat. Heel dec: Row 1 (= RS): Work row until 8-9-11 sts remain, slip 1 st as if to K, K1, psso, turn the piece. Row 2 (= WS): Work row until 8-9-11 sts remain, slip 1 st as if to P, P1, psso, turn the piece. Row 3: Work row until 7-8-10 sts remain, slip 1 st as if to K, K1, psso, turn the piece. Row 4: Work row until 7-8-10 sts remain, slip 1 st as if to P, P1, psso, turn the piece. Continue dec like this with 1 less st before each dec until there are 12-14-16 sts on row. SOCK Worked in the round on double pointed needles. Cast on 64-71-78 sts on needle size 3 mm [US 2or3] with 1 thread of each quality. K 1 round, P 2 rounds and K 2 rounds. Continue as follows: * M.1, P3 *, repeat from *-* 5-6-7 times, M.1 and then M.2. Remember the knitting gauge! Continue in pattern like this until piece measures 12-13-14 cm [4 ¾"-5⅛"-5½"], and now dec all P3 to P2 = 59-65-71 sts. Continue until piece measures 20-21-22 cm [8"-8 ¼"-8 ¾"]. Now keep the first 34-40-46 sts on needle for heel and slip the last 25 sts on a stitch holder (= mid upper foot). Work stockinette st back and forth on heel sts, at the same time dec 8-10-12 sts evenly on first row = 26-30-34 sts. When heel measures 5-5.5-6 cm [2"-2 ¼"-2⅜"] insert 1 Marking Thread (MT) – now measure piece from here. Now dec for heel - see Heel dec. After heel dec pick up 12-13-14 sts on either side of heel and slip the 25 sts back on needles = 61-65-69 sts. Continue in M.2 on the 25 sts on upper foot and work remaining sts in stockinette st. At the same time dec each side as follows: K tog the last 2 sts before the 25 sts on upper foot into back of loop and K tog the first 2 sts after the 25 sts. Dec like this on every other round a total of 8-8-8 times = 45-49-53 sts. When piece measures 18-19-21 cm [7"-7½"-8¼"] from MT on heel (= approx 4-5-6 cm [1½"-2"-2⅜"] left) insert 1 MT each side with 23-25-27 sts on upper foot and 22-24-26 sts under foot. Continue in stockinette st on all sts, at the same time dec for toes on each side of both MT as follows: Dec as follows before MT: K2 tog. Dec as follows after MT: K 2 tog into back of loop. Dec like this each side on every other round a total of 5-7-9 times and then on every round 4-3-2 times = 9 sts left on needle. Cut the thread, pull through remaining sts and fasten. |
