Probably the easiest way to decrease 1 stitch - knit 2 stitches together as one.
In the video we first knit 2 stitches together in the front loops, the dec leans right.
Then we knit 2 stitches twisted together, i.e. we knit them together in the back loops and the dec leans to the left.

Dear Rachel, you can cast off as follows if it seems clearer: cast off 3 stitches from the beginning of the row, then work as before until 3 stitches remain before the next marker (= side), cast off the next 6 stitches (= 3 sts from the front and 3 sts from the back), work until 3 sts remain in the round and cast off the next 3 sts. Dear Mrs Tezcanli, in this pattern, you should have 164 sts in size M and 176 sts in size L, this means: cast off 6 sts (starting 3 sts before the end of the round), work the next 76-82 sts (the first of them is already on the needle), cast off the next 6 sts and knit the last 76-82 sts (the first of them is already on the needle). De instructie is bij zowel het begin als eind van de naald "2 (eerste/laatste) steken samenbreien door rechternaald voor in beide steken in te steken en samenbreien". Maar zou ik niet aan de ene kant voor moeten steken en aan de andere achter? Zodat het naar de juiste kant wijst? Alvast bedankt!

Omdat je je vraag bij een video hebt geplaatst kunnen we niet zien hoe het patroon in elkaar zit. Wellicht kun je je vraag plaatsen bij het patroon wat je aan het maken bent, zodat we je wellicht beter kunnen helpen.

This dec with the abbreviations in title means that you decrease 1 stitch by first slipping a stitch, then knitting a stitch, then passing the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch. When you decrease in purled stitches, you purl 2 sts together into 1 stitch. In our video we first show how to do this the continental style, and then US style.

To make a nice decrease from 3 to 1, where the middle stitch is kept and the sts on each side are dec, this video shows you two ways; first with help of a cable needle, then without which works okey if your yarn is not to slippery.

Sometimes you want to make a piece smaller and this is made by knitting stitches together – it’s called to decrease (dec). Most commonly the decreases are made on rows from right side (RS), but sometimes it’s also necessary to decrease on wrong side rows, e.g. when you are to decrease on every row.
