GARTER ST:
Back and forth on needle: K all rows.
In the round on needle: * K 1 round and P 1 round *, repeat from *-*.

PATTERN:
See diagrams A.1 (scarf) and A.2 (hat). Diagrams show all rows in 1 pattern repetition seen from RS.
--------------------------------------------------------

SCARF:
Worked back and forth on needle. Cast on 91 sts with Kid-Silk on needle size 3.5 mm / US 4. Work in GARTER ST - read explanation above - for 3 cm / 1". Work next row (= from RS) as follows: 5 edge sts in garter st, work diagram A.1 and finish with 5 edge sts in garter st.
Continue with pattern and 5 edge sts in each side until piece measures approx. 182 cm / 71½'' - NOTE: Finish with 2nd row in pattern. Then work in garter st over all sts for approx. 3 cm / 1'', loosely bind off.
--------------------------------------------------------

HAT:
Worked in the round. Cast on 112 sts with Kid-Silk on circular needle size 3 mm / US 2.5. Work in GARTER ST - read explanation above - for 3 cm / 1''. On next round switch to double pointed needles size 3.5 mm / US 4 and work diagram A.2 the entire round (7 times in width in total).
Work diagram A.2 2 times in total vertically, finish pattern by working 1st row in pattern (piece measures approx. 17 cm / 6 3/4''). Then K 2 rounds over all sts. Then dec as follows:
ROUND 1: * K 5, K the next 2 tog *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 96 sts.
ROUND 2 (and then every even numbered round): K all sts.
ROUND 3: * K 4, K the next 2 tog *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 80 sts.
ROUND 5: * K 3, K the next 2 tog *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 64 sts.
ROUND 7: * K 2, K the next 2 tog *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 48 sts.
ROUND 9: * K 1, K the next 2 tog *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 32 sts.
ROUND 11: K2 tog around = 16 sts.
K 1 round over the 16 sts, cut the yarn and pull it through all sts, fasten.
