------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.4. The diagrams show all rows in the pattern from the right side. MOSS STITCH: ROW 1: * Knit 1. purl 1 *, work from *-*. ROW 2: Purl over knit and knit over purl. Repeat row 2 onwards. BUTTONHOLES: Work the buttonholes on the right band. 1 BUTTONHOLE = knit together 3rd and 4th stitch from the edge and make 1 yarn over. On the next row, knit the yarn over to leave a hole. Work buttonholes when the piece measures S: 9, 19 and 29 cm = 3½", 7½" and 11⅜" M: 10, 20 and 30 cm = 4", 8" and 11¾" L: 11, 21 and 31 cm = 4⅜", 8¼" and 12¼" XL: 9, 18, 27 and 36 cm = 3½", 7", 10⅝" and 14¼" XXL: 10, 19, 28 and 37 cm = 4", 7½", 11" and 14½" XXXL: 11, 20, 29 and 38 cm = 4⅜", 8", 11⅜" and 15" GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge in height = knit 2 rows. INCREASE TIP (for sleeves): Start 1 stitch before the marker-thread, make 1 yarn over, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), make 1 yarn over. On the next round knit the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes (2 increased stitches). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE. The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The piece is worked back and forth from mid-front and bottom up as far as the armholes, then divided for the front and back pieces which are finished separately. The sleeves are worked in the round, bottom up as far as the armhole, then finished back and forth. The sections are sewn together. BODY: Cast on 236-260-278-296-320-350 stitches with circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4 and DROPS Air. Work rib from the right side as follows: 7 band stitches in MOSS STITCH – read description above, work A.1, A.2, then repeat A.3 until there are 19 stitches left, work A.2, A.1 and 7 band stitches in moss stitch. Continue this pattern until A.3 has been worked 1 time in height (the rib measures approx. 6 cm = 2⅜"). Change to circular needle size 4.5 MM = US 7 and continue as follows: 7 band stitches in moss stitch, A.1, A.2, repeat A.4 over the next 198-222-240-258-282-312 stitches, AT THE SAME TIME on the first row decrease 38-46-48-50-58-64 stitches evenly over these stitches (19 stitches left on the row), work A.2, A.1 and 7 band stitches in moss stitch = 198-214-230-246-262-286 stitches. Continue this pattern and work BUTTONHOLES – read description above. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! When the piece measures 33-34-35-36-37-38 cm = 13"-13⅜"-13¾"-14¼"-14½"-15" divide for the armholes. DIVIDE FOR ARMHOLES: On the next row from the right side work 7 band stitches in moss stitch, A.1, A.2, A.4 over the next 32-32-36-36-40-44 stitches, 1 stockinette stitch (right front piece), bind off the next 2-10-10-18-18-22 stitches for the armhole, work 1 stockinette stitch, A.4 over the next 88-88-96-96-104-112 stitches, 1 stockinette stitch (back piece), bind off the next 2-10-10-18-18-22 stitches for the armhole, 1 stockinette stitch, A.4 over the next 32-32-36-36-40-44 stitches, A.2, A.1 and 7 band stitches in moss stitch (left front piece). Finish each piece separately. LEFT FRONT PIECE: = 52-52-56-56-60-64 stitches. Continue the pattern with 1 stockinette stitch by the armhole. When A.4 has been worked 4 times in height, continue with stockinette stitch over the stitches in A.4 to finished length. AT THE SAME TIME, when the piece measures 18-19-20-21-22-23 cm = 7"-7½"-8"-8¼"-8¾"-9" from the division, bind off for the diagonal shoulder. Cast off 8-8-9-9-10-11 stitches a total of 3 times, and 11-11-11-11-10-11 stitches 1 time, on every row from the armhole. After last bind off there are 17-17-18-18-20-20 stitches left towards neck. The piece measures approx. 54-56-58-60-62-64 cm = 21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜"-25¼", measured close to the neck and down. Work front band stitches and pattern A.1 and A.2 over these stitches, at the same time work short rows as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Work all stitches, turn, tighten the strand. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work the first 7 stitches, turn, tighten the strand. ROW 3 (right side): Work the 7 stitches, turn, tighten the strand. ROW 4 (wrong side): Work all stitches. Repeat rows 1 – 4 until the collar measures 9-9-10-10-11-11 cm = 3½"-3½"-4"-4"-4⅜"-4⅜" along the shortest side. Work 1 ridge over all stitches – see GARTER STITCH above. Bind off. RIGHT FRONT PIECE: = 52-52-56-56-60-64 stitches. With the first row from the wrong side, continue the pattern with 1 stockinette stitch by the armhole. When A.4 has been worked 4 times in height, continue with stockinette stitch over the stitches in A.4 to finished length. AT THE SAME TIME when the piece measures 18-19-20-21-22-23 cm = 7"-7½"-8"-8¼"-8¾"-9" from the division, bind off for the diagonal shoulder. Cast off 8-8-9-9-10-11 stitches a total of 3 times, and 11-11-11-11-10-11 stitches 1 time on every row from armhole, after last cast off there are 17-17-18-18-20-20 stitches left towards neck. The piece measures approx. 54-56-58-60-62-64 cm = 21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜"-25¼", measured close to the neck and down. Work front band stitches and pattern A.1 and A.2 as before over these stitches, at the same time work short rows as follows: ROW 1 (wrong side): Work all stitches, turn, tighten the strand. ROW 2 (right side): Work the first 7 stitches, turn, tighten the strand. ROW 3 (wrong side): Work the 7 stitches, turn, tighten the strand. ROW 4 (right side): Work all stitches. Repeat rows 1 – 4 until the collar measures 9-9-10-10-11-11 cm = 3½"-3½"-4"-4"-4⅜"-4⅜" along the shortest side. Work 1 ridge over all stitches. Bind off. BACK PIECE: = 90-90-98-98-106-114 stitches. Working the first row from the wrong side, continue the pattern, with 1 stockinette stitch on each side. Read the next section before continuing! When A.4 has been worked 4 times in height, continue with stockinette stitch over the stitches in A.4 to finished length. AT THE SAME TIME when the piece measures 17-18-19-20-21-22 cm = 6¾"-7"-7½"-8"-8¼"-8¾" from the division, bind off the 18-18-20-20-24-24 stitches for the neckline and finish each shoulder separately (36-36-39-39-41-45 shoulder-stitches). Bind off 1 stitch on the next row from the neck = 35-35-38-38-40-44 stitches. When the piece measures 18-19-20-21-22-23 cm = 7"-7½"-8"-8¼"-8¾"-9" from the division, bind off for the diagonal shoulder as follows: Cast off 8-8-9-9-10-11 stitches on each side a total of 3 times then bind off the remaining stitches. The piece measures approx. 54-56-58-60-62-64 cm = 21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜"-25¼" measured by the neck and down. Work the other shoulder in the same way. SLEEVES: Cast on 66-66-72-78-78 stitches with double pointed needles size 3.5 MM = US 4. Work A.3 in the round. When A.3 is finished in height, repeat the pattern until the rib measures 8-8-9-9-10-10 cm = 3⅛"-3⅛"-3½"-3½"-4"-4" (finishing after a round of stockinette stitch in the pattern). Insert 1 marker-thread at the beginning of the round and allow it to follow your work onwards; it is used when increasing under the sleeve. Change to double pointed needles size 4.5 MM = US 7. Continue with stockinette stitch, AT THE SAME TIME on the first round, decrease 18-16-20-18-22-20 stitches evenly spaced = 48-50-52-54-56-58 stitches. When the sleeve measures 12 cm = 4¾", increase 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread - read INCREASE TIP. Increase like this every 4½-4-3-2½-2½-2 cm = 1⅝"-1½"-1⅛"-1"-1"-¾" a total of 8-9-10-11-12-12 times = 64-68-72-76-80-82 stitches. Work until the sleeve measures 46-45-44-43-42-39 cm = 18"-17¾"-17¼"-17"-16½"-15¼". Continue stockinette stitch back and forth from the marker-thread, until the sleeve measures 47-48-47-48-47-46 cm = 18½"-19"-18½"-19"-18½"-18", i.e., a split of 1-3-3-5-5-7 cm = ⅜"-1⅛"-1⅛"-2"-2"-2¾". Bind off. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams. Sew the collar together mid-back and sew it to the neckline. Sew the sleeves into the body, with the split at the top of the sleeve sewn to the bottom of the armhole - see sketch. Sew the bands together along the bind-off edge and the sides of the bands to the neck. |

I have the same question as below. For the front piece, how come it has 17 stitches left after casting off 8 stitches for 3 times (52-8*3 =28 but 17?) Thanks!
14.03.2024 - 05:08DROPS Design answered:
Dear Yan, there seems to be a mistake in the pattern. We will send the correction to the design department. After casting off 24 stitches for the diagonal shoulders, cast off the 11 remaining stitches in the next row from the armhole, all in the same row. Now you should have 17 stitches for the neck. Happy knitting!
