------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.3. INCREASE TIP-1 (neck): Increase 1 stitch at the beginning of each purled section by making 1 yarn over. On the next round purl the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. Increase 1 stitch at the beginning of each knitted section by making 1 yarn over. On the next round knit the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. INCREASE TIP-2 (evenly spaced): To work out how to increase evenly, count the total number of stitches on the needle (e.g. 78 stitches) and divide by the number of increases to be made (e.g. 18) = 4.3. In this example, increase by making 1 yarn over after approx. each 4th stitch. On the next round work the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. DECREASE TIP (for sleeves): Decrease 1 stitch alternately after and before the marker thread mid-under the sleeve. AFTER THE MARKER THREAD: Knit 1, slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1, pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (= 1 stitch decreased). BEFORE THE MARKER THREAD: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 1 (= 1 stitch decreased). BINDING-OFF TIP: To avoid the bind-off edge being tight you can bind off with a larger size needle. If the edge is still tight, make 1 yarn over after approx. each 8th stitch at the same time as binding off; the yarn overs are bind off as normal stitches. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, from the right shoulder and top down. The yoke is divided for the body and sleeves and the body is continued in the round with circular needle. The sleeves are worked with double pointed needles/short circular needle in the round, top down. NECK: Cast on 52-52-56-60-60-64 stitches with short circular needle size 6 MM = US 10 and DROPS Snow. Knit 1 round. The next round is worked as follows: Knit 1, * purl 2, knit 2 *, work from *-* until there are 3 stitches left on the round, purl 2 and knit 1. Continue this rib for 4 cm = 1½". Insert 1 marker at the beginning of the round – the piece is measured from this marker. On the next round increase all purl-2 sections to purl-3 – read INCREASE TIP-1 = 65-65-70-75-75-80 stitches. Continue with knit 2, purl 3 rib. When the neck measures 8-8-8-9-9-9 cm = 3⅛"-3⅛"-3⅛"-3½"-3½"-3½" (4-4-4-5-5-5 cm = 1½"-1½"-1½"-2"-2"-2" from the marker), knit 1 round where all knit-2 sections are increased to knit-3 – remember INCREASE TIP-1 = 78-78-84-90-90-96 stitches. Now work the yoke as described below. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 7 MM = US 10.75. Work A.1 in the round. AT THE SAME TIME on each round with an arrow in A.1 increase stitches as described below – read INCREASE TIP-2 and REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! NOTE: A.1 is longer than the yoke and is finished on the body and sleeves. Arrow-1: Increase 18-22-24-22-22-24 stitches evenly spaced = 96-100-108-112-112-120 stitches (there is now room for 24-25-27-28-28-30 repeats of A.1 with 4 stitches). Arrow-2: Increase 24-28-34-36-36-38 stitches evenly spaced = 120-128-142-148-148-158 stitches. Arrow-3: Increase 20-26-26-34-34-38 stitches evenly spaced = 140-154-168-182-182-196 stitches (there is now room for 10-11-12-13-13-14 repeats of A.1 with 14 stitches). Arrow-4: Increase 16-28-14-26-26-38 stitches evenly spaced = 156-182-182-208-208-234 stitches (there is now room for 12-14-14-16-16-18 repeats of A.1 with 13 stitches). The increases are finished in sizes XS, S, M and L. Arrow-5 (for sizes XL and XXL): Increase 8-2 stitches evenly spaced = 156-182-182-208-216-236 stitches. Continue A.1 until the piece measures 20-22-24-25-27-29 cm = 8"-8¾"-9½"-9¾"-10⅝"-11⅜" from the marker on the neck – remember A.1 is finished on the body and sleeves. Now divide the yoke for the body and sleeves on the next round as follows: Place the first 30-37-37-42-42-46 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 8-6-10-8-10-10 new stitches (= in side under sleeve), continue A.1 over the next 48-54-54-62-66-72 stitches (= front piece), place the next 30-37-37-42-42-46 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 8-6-10-8-10-10 new stitches (= in side under sleeve), continue A.1 over the last 48-54-54-62-66-72 stitches (= back piece). Cut the strand. The body and sleeves are finished separately. THE PIECE IS NOW MEASURED FROM HERE! BODY: = 112-120-128-140-152-164 stitches. Insert 1 marker under the one sleeve, in the middle of the 8-6-10-8-10-10 cast-on stitches. Start the round by the marker and continue A.1 in the round, making sure the pattern matches the pattern on the yoke and working as far out to the sides as possible – A.1 will not fit under the sleeves in all sizes. When A.1 has been completed, work A.2 over all stitches (= 28-30-32-35-38-41 repeats of 4 stitches). When A.2 has been completed, work stockinette stitch over all stitches until the piece measures 25 cm = 9¾" from the division in all sizes. There is approx. 6 cm = 2⅜" left to finished length; try the sweater on and work to desired length. To avoid the following rib from being tight, stitches are increased as described below. Knit 1 round where you increase 20-24-24-28-28-32 stitches evenly spaced = 132-144-152-168-180-196 stitches. Change to circular needle size 6 MM = US 10 and work rib (knit 2, purl 2) for 6 cm = 2⅜". Bind off with knit over knit and purl over purl – read BINDING-OFF TIP! The sweater measures approx. 54-56-58-60-62-64 cm = 21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜"-25¼" from the shoulder down. SLEEVES: Place the 30-37-37-42-42-46 stitches from the thread on the one side of the piece on double pointed needles/short circular needle size 7 MM = US 10.75 and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 8-6-10-8-10-10 stitches cast on under the sleeve = 38-43-47-50-52-56 stitches. Insert a marker thread in the middle of the 8-6-10-8-10-10 stitches under the sleeve. Allow the thread to follow your work onwards; it will be used when decreasing under the sleeve. In addition, insert 1 marker in the 20th-22nd-24th-26th-27th-29th stitch on the round (= approx. mid-top of sleeve). Start the round at the marker thread under the sleeve and continue A.1 in the round, making sure the pattern matches the pattern on the yoke (A.1 will not fit under the sleeve). When A.1 has been completed, work A.2 – count out from the mid-stitch where the pattern should start under the sleeve. When A.2 has been completed, continue with stockinette stitch over all stitches. AT THE SAME TIME when the sleeve measures 2 cm = ¾" from the division in all sizes, decrease 1 stitch before the marker thread under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP. When the sleeve measures 4-4-4-3½-3½-3½ cm = 1½"-1½"-1½"-1¼"-1¼"-1¼" from the division, decrease 1 stitch after the marker thread. Repeat these decreases every 2-2-2-1½-1½-1½ cm = ¾"-¾"-¾"-½"-½"-½", alternately before and after the marker thread, a total of 4-7-9-10-10-10 times = 34-36-38-40-42-46 stitches left. Continue working without further decreases until the sleeve measures 27-26-24-24-23-21 cm = 10⅝"-10¼"-9½"-9½"-9"-8¼" from the division (shorter measurements in larger sizes due to wider neck and longer yoke). There is approx. 17 cm = 6¾" left to finished length; try the sweater on and work to desired length. Work A.3 in the round – count out from the mid-stitch where the pattern should start under the sleeve. When A.3 has been completed, the sleeve measures approx. 38-37-35-35-34-32 cm = 15"-14½"-13¾"-13¾"-13⅜"-12½" from the division. Knit 1 round where you increase 6-8-6-8-6-6 stitches evenly spaced = 40-44-44-48-48-52 stitches. Change to double pointed needles size 6 MM = US 10 and work rib (knit 2, purl 2) for 6 cm = 2⅜". Bind off with knit over knit and purl over purl – remember the BINDING-OFF TIP! The sleeve measures approx. 44-43-41-41-40-38 cm = 17¼"-17"-16⅛"-16⅛"-15¾"-15" from the division. Work the other sleeve in the same way. |
