Gauge: 24 sts x 32 rows = 10 x 10 cm [4" x 4"] in stockinette st.

Garter st, when knitting flat: Knit all sts, all rows.

Pattern: See charts. 1 chart = 1 repeat. The pattern is seen from the right side. Remember that «p» means «rows»; «M» means «Pattern». When changing from the patterns in the chart for Patterns 2 through 5, be sure to line up patterns as shown in chart.

Decreasing tips (for neck):
All decs are made on right side. Dec 1 st for the neck inside 3 edge sts knit in garter st throughout as follows:
Before 3 edge sts: K 2 tog.
After 3 edge sts: sl 1, K 1, psso.

Knitting tip (for both neck and armhole): Be careful when decreasing in pattern that you make the right number of yarn overs and decs on row. When binding off, knit sts in stockinette st in the outermost repeat if not a half or a whole repeat of the pattern, to avoid making mistakes in the pattern.

Body: Cast on 256-280-304 sts. Knit Pattern 1 keeping 5 sts at each front edge in garter st throughout. On the last row of Pattern 1 inc 1 st = 257-281-305 sts. Then knit Pattern 2 as follows: 5 sts garter st, 3 sts of Pattern A, 240-264-288 sts of Pattern B, 4 sts of Pattern C, 5 sts garter st. When the piece measures approx. 17 cm [6.75"] - adjust so you finish after a complete repeat of Pattern 2 - knit Pattern 3. When the piece measures 19-20-21 cm [7.5" - 7 7/8" - 8.25"] make a buttonhole on right button band - bind off the 4th st from edge and on the next row yo over the bound off st. Make buttonholes when the piece measures:
Size S/M: 26, 33, 40, 47, 54 and 61 cm [10.25", 13", 15.75", 18.5", 21.25" and 24"].
Size M/L: 27, 34, 41, 48, 55 and 62 cm [10 5/8", 13 3/8", 16 1/8", 18 7/8", 21 5/8" and 24 3/8"].
Size XL: 28, 35, 42, 49, 56 and 63 cm [11", 13.75", 16.5", 19.25", 22" and 24.75"].
When the piece measures approx. 39 cm [15.25"] (adjust so you end on the last row of Pattern 3) - knit Pattern 4 once and then knit Pattern 5 to finished dimensions.
At the same time when the piece measures 54-55-56 cm [21.25" - 21 5/8" - 22"] knit the next row as follows: 64-70-76 sts for the front, bind off 8 sts for armhole, 113-125-137 sts for the back, bind off 8 sts for armhole, 64-70-76 sts for the front. Knit each piece separately.

Left front: = 64-70-76 sts. Bind off for armhole every other row - see Knitting tip: 2 sts 3-5-6 times and 1 st 7-7-7 times = 51-53-57 sts. Continue in Pattern keeping 1-3-1 sts in stockinette st at the armhole edge. When the piece measures 61-62-63 cm [24" - 24 3/8" - 24.75"] knit 4 rows garter st over the 14 sts at center front. On the next row bind off the 11 sts at the center front edge. Keeping 3 sts in garter st at neck edge, dec 1 st for the neck every other row 12-13-14 times - see knitting tips = 28-29-32 sts remain on shoulder. Bind off when the piece measures approx. 74-76-78 cm [29 1/8" - 29 7/8" - 30.75"] - adjust so you end after the 8th or 16th row of Pattern 5.

Right Front: = 64-70-76 sts. Knit the same as left, reversing all shaping and making buttonholes on button bands - the top buttonhole is made at the same time as the beginning of neck shaping.

Back: = 113-125-137 sts. Bind off for armhole at each side as on front = 87-91-99 sts. Continue in pattern keeping 1-3-1 sts in stockinette st at each side. When the piece measures approx. 72-74-76 cm [28.25" - 29 1/8" - 29 7/8"] (or when 2 cm [0.75"] remains to finished measurements - match to front) knit 4 rows garter st over the center 33-35-37 sts. On the next row bind off the center 27-29-31 sts. Keeping 3 sts at neck edge in garter st throughout, dec 1 st for the neck every other row 2 times - see knitting tips = 28-29-32 sts remain on each shoulder. Bind off when piece is same length as front.

Sleeve: Cast on 56-56-56 sts. Knit Pattern 1 keeping 1 st at each edge in stockinette st - on last row of Pattern 1 inc 1 st = 57-57-57 sts. Continue with Pattern 2 as follows: 1 edge st in stockinette st, 3 sts of Pattern A, 48 sts of Pattern B, 4 sts Pattern C, 1 edge st in stockinette st. At the same time when the piece measures 10 cm [4"] inc 1 st at each side every 7-6-5 rows 16-18-21 times = 89-93-99 sts - knit the increased sts in stockinette st until there are enough sts to knit in the pattern. At the same time when the piece measures approx. 12 cm [4.75"] - adjust so you end after 8 rows of Pattern 2 - knit Pattern 3. When the piece measures approx. 34 cm [13 3/8"] knit Pattern 4 once (13 rows), then knit Pattern 5 to finished dimensions . When the piece measures approx. 47-46-44 cm [18.5" - 18 1/8" - 17.25"] bind off for sleeve cap at each side every other row: 3 sts 1-1-1 time, 2 sts 3-3-4 times, 1 st 11-13-12 times and then 2 sts at each side until piece measures approx. 59-59-58 cm [23.25" - 23.25" - 22 7/8"], bind off the remaining sts.

Assembly: Sew shoulder seams. Sew the sleeve seam using edge sts as seam allowance, then sew in sleeves. Sew on buttons.
