------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.3 (A.1 shows how the rounds start and finish). SQUARE COLORS: You work 8 items of square 1; 4 of all the other squares = a total of 24 squares. SQUARE 1: Cast on + rounds 1-4: christmas red Rounds 5 and 6: coral. SQUARE 2: Cast on + rounds 1-4: coral Rounds 5 and 6: cerise SQUARE 3: Cast on + rounds1-4: coral Rounds 5 and 6: christmas red SQUARE 4: Cast on + rounds 1-4: christmas red Rounds 5 and 6: cerise SQUARE 5: Cast on + rounds 1-4: cerise Rounds 5 and 6: christmas red. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- BLANKET - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The blanket is made up of squares. Work squares in the 5 different color combinations. When all the squares are finished, they are worked together and an edge is crocheted around the blanket to finish. CROCHET SQUARE: Work 5 chain stitches with hook size 7 mm = US K or L and using the cast-on color - read SQUARE COLORS. Form them into a ring with 1 slip stitch in the first chain stitch worked. Work A.1 (shows how the rounds start and finish), A.2 one time and A.3 a total of 3 times on the round. REMEMBER THE CROCHET GAUGE! When the whole diagram has been worked in height, cut and fasten the strands. The square measures approx. 25 x 25 cm = 9¾" x 9¾". ASSEMBLY: Lay the squares out as shown in the sketch. Make sure all the squares have right side up. The squares are first worked together in length, then across. Crochet them together with Christmas red as follows: Lay 2 squares together, wrong side to wrong side and work through both layers. Work 1 single crochet around the corner, * 3 chain stitches, 1 single crochet around the next chain stitch *, work from *-* up to and including the corner (= 6 chain-spaces) and work 3 chain stitches (= transition to the next 2 squares). Repeat on the next 2 squares beside the first 2 and continue the whole length of the blanket, until all the squares on these 2 rows have been worked together. Cut and fasten the strand. Then work this double row together with the next row in the same way. When all the rows are worked together lengthwise, all the squares are connected. Now work across the blanket in the same way. EDGE: Now work an edge with christmas red around the whole blanket. Fasten the strand with 1 slip stitch in the last double crochet before one of the corner chain-spaces and start the round with 3 chain stitches. Then work as follows: Corner: Work 1 chain stitch, 3 double crochets around the corner-space, 3 chain stitches, 3 double crochets around the corner-space, and 1 chain stitch. Side of a square: Work 1 double crochet in each double crochet and 1 chain stitch over each chain stitch. In the transition between 2 squares (= 2 corner-spaces): Work 1 chain stitch, 1 double crochet around the first corner-space, 1 chain stitch, 1 double crochet around the next corner-space, 1 chain stitch. When you have worked around the whole blanket, finish the round with 1 slip stitch in the 3rd chain stitch at the beginning of the round. Cut and fasten the strand. |
