EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.7. CROCHET INFORMATION (shawl collar): At the beginning of each row of double crochets, replace the first double crochet with 3 chain stitches, i.e. skip 1 stitch from the previous row. At the beginning of each row of single crochets, replace the first single crochet with 1 chain stitch, i.e. skip 1 stitch from the previous row. DECREASE TIP (for sleeves): Decrease alternately at the beginning and end of the row as follows: Decrease as shown in A.6 when decreasing at beginning of round. Decrease as shown in A.7 when decreasing at end of round. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: Front and back pieces are worked back and forth separately and sewn together to finish. The sleeves are worked in the round from the armhole. BACK PIECE: Work 104-118-133 chain stitches with hook size 5 mm = US H/8 and Big Merino. Turn and work 1 double crochet in the 4th chain stitch from the hook (= equivalent to 2 double crochets), work 1 double crochet in each of the next 4-6-3 chain stitches, * skip 1 chain stitch, work 1 double crochet in each of the next 5 chain stitches *, work from *-* a total of 16-18-21 times = 86-98-110 double crochets. Then work according to the diagrams as follows – from the right side: Work A.1 over the first double crochet, A.2 over the next 84-96-108 double crochets (= 14-16-18 repeats), A.3 over the last double crochet. Continue this pattern to finished length. REMEMBER THE CROCHET GAUGE! When the piece measures approx. 68-74-79 cm = 26¾"-29⅛"-31" – adjust to after a complete repeat in height, cut and fasten the strand. RIGHT FRONT PIECE: Work 61-68-75 chain stitches with hook size 5 mm = US H/8 and Big Merino. Turn and work 1 double crochet in the 4th chain stitch from the hook (= equivalent to 2 double crochets), work 1 double crochet in each of the next 3-4-5 chain stitches, * skip 1 chain stitch, work 1 double crochet in each of the next 5 chain stitches *, work from *-* a total of 9-10-11 times = 50-56-62 double crochets. Then work according to the diagrams as follows – from the right side: Work A.1 over the first double crochet, A.2 over the next 48-54-60 double crochets (= 8-9-10 repeats), A.3 over the last double crochet. Continue this pattern until the piece measures approx. 68-74-79 cm = 26¾"-29⅛"-31" – adjust to match the back piece. Now work the shawl collar. SHAWL COLLAR: Work the shawl collar back and forth starting from the right side - read CROCHET INFORMATION, as follows - * Work 1 double crochet in each of the first 18 double crochets, turn and work 1 single crochet in each of the first 2 double crochets, 1 half double crochet in each of the next 2 double crochets, 1 double crochet in each of the next 14 double crochets, turn *, repeat from *-* until the collar measures approx. 8 cm = 3⅛" at the narrowest. Cut and fasten the strand. LEFT FRONT PIECE: Work in the same way as the right front piece as far as the collar. Cut and fasten the strand before starting the collar. The shawl collar is worked in the same way as on the right front piece, but start from the wrong side (fasten the strand with 1 slip stitch in the first double crochet). ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams edge to edge – sew in the outermost loop of the outermost stitch so that the seam is flat. Start 20-22-24 cm = 8"-8¾"-9½" down from the shoulder (= armhole) and sew the sides together. Sew the shawl collar together mid back and sew the neckline on the back piece, back of neck – make sure that the seam turns in towards the wrong side when the collar is turned down. SLEEVE: Work around the armhole as follows – start mid under the sleeve: Fasten the strand with 1 slip stitch mid under sleeve, work 3 chain stitches (= equivalent to 1 double crochet), work 57-60-66 double crochets evenly divided along the stitches on the armhole and finish the round with 1 slip stitch in the 3rd chain stitch at the beginning of the round = 58-61-67 double crochets. Then work as follows: A.4 (shows how the rounds start and finish) over the first double crochet and A.5 over the remaining 57-60-66 double crochets (= 19-20-22 repeats). Continue this pattern to finished length – at the same time decrease 1 repeat mid under sleeve on the round marked with arrow in the diagrams – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this on each round marked with an arrow a total of 4-5-8 times, then every 2nd round marked with an arrow a total of 3-2-0 times = 37-40-43 double crochets on the last round in the diagrams. Continue working until the sleeve measures approx. 46-44-41 cm = 18"-17¼"-16⅛" (shorter measurements in larger sizes due to wider shoulders) - adjust after a complete repeat in height. Cut and fasten the strand. Work the other sleeve in the same way. POCKET: Work 39-39-46 chain stitches with hook size 5 mm = US H/8 and Big Merino. Turn and work 1 double crochet in the 4th chain stitch from the hook (= equivalent to 2 double crochets), work 1 double crochet in each of the next 5-5-6 chain stitches, * skip 1 chain stitch, work 1 double crochet in each of the next 5 chain stitches *, work from *-* a total of 5-5-6 times = 32-32-38 double crochets. Then work according to the diagrams as follows – from the right side: Work A.1 over the first double crochet, A.2 over the next 30-30-36 double crochets (= 5-5-6 repeats), A.3 over the last double crochet. Continue this pattern until A.1/A.2/A.3 have been worked a total of 3 times in height, then work 1 row of 1 single crochets in each double crochet. Cut and fasten the strand. The piece measures approx. 18 cm = 7". Work 1 more pocket in the same way. ASSEMBLY: Place the pockets so that the pattern on the pockets matches the pattern on the jacket - place them right into the side seams on each front piece and 1 repeat up from the bottom of the jacket. Sew them on with small stitches. |

I have read this pattern over and over again and I just cannot seem to find where does the combination of A.6, A.4, A.7 come in? Also, on row 3 of A.2: do you just start directly with the 2 trebles together after your first stich in A.1?
06.11.2023 - 12:54DROPS Design answered:
Der Mrs Kotzè, A.4 shows how to start the rounds, A.6 shows how to decrease at the beginning of the round on sleeves, then you wontinue working A.5 and finish round with A.7 which shows how to decrease at the end of the round. When working A.2 you should start with A.1 first = 1 chain at the beg of 3rd row, then repeat A.2 and end with A.3 = 1 double crochet (Uk-English) in the 3rd chain from beg of 2nd row. Happy crocheting!
