DECREASE TIP:
Work 1 sc but wait with last pull through (= 2 sts on hook), then work next sc but on last pull through, pull yarn through all sts on hook = 1 sc dec.

--------------------------------------------------------

EAR FLAP:
Cast on 4-4-5 sts on double pointed needles size 8 mm / US 11 with light brown Andes. Work in stockinette st back and forth with K1 edge st in each side (1st row = WS).
On next row from RS inc 1 st in each side by making 1 YO inside 1 edge st, on next row P YO twisted to avoid hole. Inc like this every row from RS 3 more times = 12-12-13 sts in total on row. REMEMBER THE GAUGE! Continue in stockinette st until flap measures 6-7-8 cm / 2½"-2 3/4"-3".
Put piece aside and knit another ear flap.

HAT:
Work one ear flap on to circular needle size 8 mm / US 11, cast on 8-10-11 new sts (= back) and work the other ear flap on to same needle = 32-34-37 sts turn.
P next row from WS, turn.
Continue in stockinette st back and forth and K 1 edge st in each side - AT THE SAME TIME inc 1 st in each side the same way as on ear flap 2 times = 36-38-41 sts. At the end of next row from RS cast on 12-14-15 sts at the front between ear flaps = 48-52-56 sts. NOW MEASURE PIECE FROM HERE!
Join and work hat in stockinette st in the round until piece measures 10-12-13 cm / 4"-4 3/4"-5".
Now insert 6 markers in the piece as follows:
3/5 years: 8 sts between each.
6/9 years: 9-8-9-9-8-9 sts between each.
10/12 years: 10-9-9-10-9-9 sts between each.
Then dec 1 st by K 2 tog after every marker on every other round 4-4-5 times in total and then every round 3 more times = 6-10-8 sts remain on needle.
Cut the yarn and pull it through the remaining sts, tighten tog and fasten.
Hat measures approx. 17-19-22 cm / 6 3/4"-7½"-8 3/4" from mid front and up to top.

CROCHET EDGE:
Work with 3 strands Alpaca Bouclé on hook size 7 mm/K or L.
Begin before left ear flap at opening mid front as follows: 1 sc, * ch 2, skip approx. 1 cm / ½'', 1 sc *, repeat from *-* around one ear flap, along edge at the back of neck, around the last ear flap. Then work back and forth along opening mid front to make a flap as follows:
ROW 1 (RS): Work sc in each of the 12-14-15 sts at the front, 1 sl st in first sc from round around the hat. Turn piece and ch 1.
ROW 2 (WS): Work 1 sc in every sc, turn piece and ch 1.
ROW 3: Work 1 sc in every sc BUT work the first 2 and the last 2 sc tog - read DECREASE TIP above. Turn piece and ch 1.
ROW 4-7: Repeat ROWS 2-3.
Fasten off.

ASSEMBLY:
Fold up the flap in front and fasten with small stitches.
