GARTER ST (back and forth on needle):
K all rows. 1 ridge = K2 rows.

GARTER ST (in the round on circular needle):
* K 1 round and P 1 round *, repeat from *-*. 1 ridge = 2 rounds.

SEED ST:
Row 1: * K 1, P 1 *, repeat from *-*.
Row 2: K over P and P over K. Repeat 2nd row.

PATTERN:
See diagrams A.1 and A.2. Diagrams show all rows in pattern from RS.
----------------------------------------------------------

BOLERO:
Worked in 2 parts that are sewn tog mid back. Then pick up an edge round the opening of bolero. Worked back and forth on circular needle. Cast on 40-40-40-48-48-48 sts on circular needle size 5.5 mm / US 9 with 1 strand of each yarn. Work SEED ST - see explanation above. Continue until piece measures 4 cm / 1½''. On next row from WS start working A.1 – see explanation above (= 5-5-5-6-6-6 times in width). Work pattern A.1 1 time vertically. Then work 7 rows in seed st over all sts. On next row from WS start working A.1 (= 5-5-5-6-6-6 times in width). Work pattern A.1 1 time vertically. Then work seed st over all sts. REMEMBER THE GAUGE!
When piece measures 15 cm / 6'', inc 1 st in each side. Repeat inc in each side on every 5th-5th-5th-5th-5th-4th row 13-15-15-13-15-17 more times (= 14-16-16-14-16-18 times in total) = 68-72-72-76-80-84 sts.
Work the inc sts in seed st. When piece measures 43 cm / 17'', insert 1 marker in each side - now measure piece from here. Now bind off and dec in one side of piece (= front piece) while AT THE SAME TIME casting on new sts in the other side of piece (= towards back piece) as follows:

FRONT PIECE:
bind off on every other row (i.e. at beg of every row from RS): 4 sts 3 times in all sizes, 2 sts 6 times in all sizes and 1 st 5-8-6-10-13-16 times, then bind off on every 4th row (i.e. at beg of every other row from RS): 1 st 5-4-6-4-3-2 times. After last bind off, the piece measures 17-18-19-19-20-21 cm / 6 3/4"-7"-7½"-7½"-8"-8 1/4".

TOWARDS BACK PIECE:
Cast on new sts on every other row (i.e. at end of every row from RS): 1 st 7-10-16-16-18-18 times and then on every 4th row (i.e. at end of every other row from RS): 1 st 3-2-0-0-0-0 times.

After all bind offs and inc there are 44-48-52-54-58-60 sts on needle. Work seed st until piece measures 21-22-23-24-25-26 cm / 8¼''-8¾''-9''-9½''-9¾''-10¼'' from marker. Work 2 ridges in GARTER ST - see explanation above - over all sts. Bind off.
Piece measures approx. 65-66-67-68-69-70 cm / 25½"-26"-26½"-26 3/4"-27"-27½" in total.
Bolero has now been worked until mid of back, i.e. half way.

LEFT SIDE:
Cast on and work as right side but reversed. I.e. when binding off on front piece, bind off at beg of row from WS (instead of RS). Cast on new sts towards back piece at end of row from WS (instead of RS).

ASSEMBLY:
Sew the 2 parts tog mid back. Sew sleeve seams up to markers.

EDGE:
Pick up along the opening of bolero - i.e. along right front piece, back of neck, down along left front piece and then along back piece as follows: Pick up from RS 153-162-168-174-180-183 sts (approx. 33-35-37-37-38-39 sts = on each front piece, 18-18-18-20-20-20 sts = neck, 69-74-76-80-84-85 sts = on entire back piece) on circular needle size 5 mm / US 8 and work in the round on needle as follows: Work 3 RIDGES in garter st - see explanation above. K 1 round while AT THE SAME TIME inc 18 sts evenly (inc especially in transition between front piece/back piece/neck) = 171-180-186-192-198-201 sts. Then work from RS A.2 over all sts 1 time vertically. Work 3 ridges in garter st. K 1 round while AT THE SAME TIME inc 18 sts = 189-198-204-210-216-219 sts. Then work A.2 over all sts 1 time vertically. Then work 3 ridges in garter st. K 1 round while AT THE SAME TIME inc 18 sts evenly = 207-216-222-228-234-237 sts. Edge measures approx. 10 cm / 4''. Loosely bind off.
