Knitting gauge: 10 sts x 14 rows on needle size 9 mm / US 13 in stockinette sts = 10 x 10 cm / 4'' x 4''.

Pattern: See diagram M.1 The diagram is showing all rows in pattern seen from the right side.

Rib: *K2, P2*, repeat from *-*.

Lace border:
1st row: K2, 2 yo, K2
2nd row: K2 sts in first st, K2, P1 (in second yo), K2
3rd row: K7
4th row: bind off 3 sts, K4.

Cast on 38 sts (includes 1 edge st each side) on needle size 9 mm / US 13 with Eskimo. K3 rows (1st row = RS) and P 2 rows.
P1 more row and at the same time on inc 1 st in the 16th st and 1 st in the 18th st (= 40 sts).
Work next row as follows from the RS: 1 edge st in garter st, 16 sts in reverse stockinette sts (P on RS, K on WS), diagram M.1 (= 6 sts), 16 sts in reverse stockinette sts and 1 edge st.
When piece measures approx 34 cm / 13½'' – on the row after a cable row or 2 rows after a cable – dec 6 sts evenly = 34 sts (do not dec in cables).
Continue in Rib and make sure there is P2 over each cable.
When piece measures 40 cm / 15 3/4'' bind off loosely in Rib.

Make another leg warmer.

Sew leg warmer tog inside 1 edge st.

Lace border:
Cast on 4 sts on needle size 9 mm / US 13 with Eskimo and work border pattern – see above.
Bind off when border measures 36 cm / 14 1/4'' on the shorter side.
Sew the border tog to form a ring and sew to the lower edge of the leg warmer (the edge without Rib) with the “spikes” pointing downwards. Repeat on the other leg warmer.

= K from RS, P from WS
= put 3 sts on cable needle in front of piece, K3, K3 from cable needle.
