Knitting Tension: 20sts x 26 rows on needles size 4 mm in stocking st = 10x10cm.
Moss stitch: 1st row: K1, P1. 2nd row: P over K and K over P. Repeat 1st and 2nd row.
Pattern: See diagram. (1 diagram=1 repeat). Pattern is read from right to left, and is seen from RS.
Jacket is knitted back and forth on needle from center front. Cast on 220 (240) sts on long circ needle size 3mm with blue. Work 3 cm in moss st and inc 44 (40) sts evenly on last row = 264 (280) sts. Change to circ needle size 4mm and continue as follows: Right front: 16 sts stocking st, M.1, 10 sts stocking st, M.2, 16 (20) sts stocking st. Back: 16 (20) sts stocking st, M.2, 10 sts stocking st, M.1, 32 sts stocking st, M.1, 10 sts stocking st, M.2, 16 (20) sts stocking st. Left front: 16 (20) sts stocking st, M.2, 10 sts stocking st, M.1, 16 (20) sts stocking st. Remember to check your tension. Continue in pattern until piece measures 29 (35) cm. Next row: Work 64 (68) sts for front, cast off 4 sts for arm hole, work 128 (136) sts for back, cast off 4 sts for arm hole, work 64 (68) sts for front. Finish each piece separately.
Right front: = 64 (68) sts. Dec for arm hole on every other row as follows: 1 sts 3 times = 61 (65) sts. Continue until piece measures 34 (38) cm. Dec 3 sts over each cable = 55 (59) sts. Work M.3, then finish in stocking st.
At the same time when piece measures 51 (57) cm cast off 11 (11) sts on neck edge. Dec on neck edge on every other row as follows: 3 sts once, 2 sts 3 times, 1 st twice. Continue until piece measures 58 (64) cm. Cast off.
Left front: =64 (68) sts. Work as right front.
Back: = 128 (136) sts. Dec for arm hole as on front = 122 (130) sts.
Continue in pattern as on front until piece measures 34 (38) cm. Dec 3 sts over each cable = 110 (118) sts. Work M.3, then finish in stocking st. At the same time when piece measures 56 (62) cm, cast off center 40 (40) sts for neck. Dec 2 sts each side on next row for neck. Continue until piece measures 58 (64) cm. Cast off.
Sleeve: Cast on 50 (50) sts on short circ needle size 3mm with blue. Work 3 cm in moss st. inc 10 sts evenly on last row = 60 (60) sts. Change to circ needle size 4mm. Next row: 15 sts stocking st, M.1, 6 sts stocking st, M.2, 15 sts stocking st. At the same time after the moss st, inc underneath sleeve every 3rd round as follows: 2 sts 31 times = 122 (122) sts. (work increased sts in stocking st). Continue until piece measures 45 (45) cm. Put center 8 sts underneath sleeve on a thread and finish working back and forth on needle. Continue to put sts on thread each side on every other row as follows: 6 sts 3 times. Put all sts back on needle and work 1 row in stocking stand at the same time dec 3 sts over each cable = 116 (116 sts. Work M.3 and then 2 rows stocking st. Piece measures approx 49 (49) cm. Cast off.
Pocket flaps: Work in moss st. Cast on 28 sts on double pointed needle size 3mm with blue and work 3 cm. Dec 1 st each side inside edge st on every row. When 8 sts remain, cast off center 2 sts for button hole. Cast on 2 sts over the hole on next row. Continue dec until 4 sts remain. Cast off.
Make 2 flaps.
Side strap: Worked in moss st. Cast on 8 sts. Work 6 cm. Cast off centre 2 sts for button hole, cast on 2 sts over the cast off sts on next row. Dec 1 st each side inside edge st until 2 sts remain. Cast off. Make 2 straps.
Assembly: Sew shoulder seams. Pick up approx 112 (126) sts along left front with blue on circ needle size 3mm and work 3 cm in moss st back and forth on needle. Cast off. Repeat along right front but after 1 cm work 6 button holes evenly spaced – 1 button hole = cast off 2 sts, cast on 2 sts over the cast off sts on next row. Pick up approx 114 sts around neck WS facing on circ needle size 3mm with blue and work 9 cm moss st back and forth on needle. Cast off. Sew in sleeves. Place centre of pocket flap over centre of the 16 sts in stocking st between the cables, and under M.3 on both fronts and sew in place using duplicate stitch. Place the straps on both sides of jacket on bottom edge sew in place using duplicate stitch. Sew in buttons as follows: 6 for front bands, 1 for each pocket flap, and 1 for each strap.
put 3 sts on cable needle and place behind work, K3, K3 from cable needle.
put 3 sts on cable needle and place in front of work, K3, K3 from cable needle.
