------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- CHAIN STITCH: If you work outermost on the hook the chain stitch will often be too tight; 1 chain stitch should be as long as 1 single/double crochet is wide. CROCHET INFORMATION: The first double crochet on each row is replaced by 3 chain stitches. Each row ends with 1 double crochet in the 3rd chain stitch from the previous row. DECREASE TIP-1 (for armholes and neck): At beginning of row: Replace the double crochets to be decreased with slip stitches. At end of row: Turn when the number of double crochets to be decreased is left on the row. DECREASE TIP-2 (for armholes): DECREASE 1 STITCH AT BEGINNING OF ROW: Work 3 chain stitches (replace first double crochet), make 1 yarn over, insert hook through next stitch, pick up strand, make 1 yarn over and pull it through the first 2 loops on hook, make 1 yarn over and pull it through the 2 loops on hook (1 stitch decreased). DECREASE 1 STITCH AT END OF ROW: Work until there are 2 double crochets left on row, * make 1 yarn over, insert hook through next stitch, pick up strand, make 1 yarn over and pull it through the first 2 loops on hook *, work from *-* a total of 2 times, make 1 yarn over and pull it through all 3 loops on hook (1 stitch decreased). DECREASE 2 STITCHES AT BEGINNING OF ROW: Work 3 chain stitches (replace first double crochet), make 1 yarn over, insert hook through next stitch, pick up strand, make 1 yarn over and pull it through the first 2 loops on hook, make 1 yarn over and pull it through the 2 loops on hook (1 stitch decreased). * Make 1 yarn over, insert hook through next stitch, pick up strand, make 1 yarn over and pull it through first 2 loops on hook *, work from *-* 1 more time, make 1 yarn over and pull it through all 3 loops on hook (1 stitch decreased). A total of 2 stitches decreased at beginning of row. DECREASE 2 STITCHES AT END OF ROW: Work until there are 4 double crochets left on row, * make 1 yarn over, insert hook through next stitch, pick up strand, make 1 yarn over and pull it through the first 2 loops on hook *, work from *-* 1 more time, make 1 yarn over and pull it through all 3 loops on hook (1 stitch decreased). Repeat from *-* 2 more times, make 1 yarn over and pull it through all 3 loops on hook (1 stitch decreased). A total of 2 stitches decreased at end of row. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 and A.2. ------------------------------------------------------- START HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- TOP - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked back and forth in sections, bottom up. The body is sewn together with a split in each side. An edge is crocheted around the armholes and neck. BACK PIECE: Work 84-92-100-110-122-134 chain stitches with hook size 4 MM = US 6 and DROPS Safran. Read CHAIN STITCH and CROCHET INFORMATION in explanations above! Work as follows from the right side: 1 double crochet in the 4th chain stitch from the hook, then 1 double crochet in each chain stitch to end of row = 82-90-98-108-120-132 double crochets. Work back and forth with 1 double crochet in each double crochet for 4 cm = 1½". Insert 1 marker in each side – shows where to work the splits. REMEMBER THE CROCHET GAUGE! Continue with double crochets back and forth until the piece measures 27-28-29-30-31-32 cm = 10⅝"-11"-11⅜"-11¾"-12¼"-12½" from the cast-on edge. Now decrease 3-4-5-8-9-10 double crochets in each side for the armholes - read DECREASE TIP-1 = 76-82-88-92-102-112 double crochets. Read DECREASE TIP-2 and continue to decrease for the armholes as follows on each row: 2 double crochets 1-2-3-3-4-5 times, 1 double crochet 4-4-4-5-7-9 times on each side = 64-66-68-70-72-74 double crochets. Continue with double crochets until the piece measures 42-44-46-48-50-52 cm = 16½"-17¼"-18"-19"-19¾"-20½" from the cast-on edge. Now skip the middle 30-32-32-34-34-36 double crochets for the neckline and finish each shoulder separately. Decrease 1 double crochet for the neck on the next row = 16-16-17-17-18-18 double crochets. Work until the piece measures 44-46-48-50-52-54 cm = 17¼"-18"-19"-19¾"-20½"-21¼". Cut and fasten the strand. Work the other shoulder in the same way. FRONT PIECE: Work 84-92-100-110-122-134 chain stitches with hook size 4 MM = US 6 and DROPS Safran. Remember CHAIN STITCH and CROCHET INFORMATION! Work as follows from the right side: 1 double crochet in the 4th chain stitch from the hook, work 1 double crochet in each of the next 30-34-38-42-48-54 chain stitches, work A.1 over the next 20-20-20-22-22-22 chain stitches and 1 double crochet in each of the last 31-35-39-43-49-55 chain stitches. Work this pattern back and forth for 4 cm = 1½". Insert 1 marker in each side – shows where to work the splits. Continue working until the piece measures 27-28-29-30-31-32 cm = 10⅝"-11"-11⅜"-11¾"-12¼"-12½" from the cast-on edge. Now decrease 3-4-5-8-9-10 double crochets on each side for the armholes - remember DECREASE TIP-1 = 76-82-88-92-102-112 stitches. You now decrease for both the armholes and neck; read the next 2 paragraphs before continuing! ARMHOLES: Remember DECREASE TIP-2, continue the pattern and decrease for the armholes on each row as follows: 2 double crochets 1-2-3-3-4-5 times, 1 double crochet 4-4-4-5-7-9 times on each side. NECK: When the piece measures 35-37-38-40-41-43 cm = 13¾"-14½"-15"-15¾"-16⅛"-17" from the cast-on edge, work the neckline (then each shoulder separately) with the next row either row 2 or 5 in A.1 as follows: Work as before until there are 4 double crochets left before A.1, work A.2. When A.2 is finished, continue with double crochets and decrease 1 double crochet for the neck on each row - remember DECREASE TIP-1, a total of 4-5-5-5-5-6 times. After all decreases for armholes and neck there are 16-16-17-17-18-18 double crochets on the shoulder. Continue working until the piece measures 44-46-48-50-52-54 cm = 17¼"-18"-19"-19¾"-20½"-21¼". Cut and fasten the strand. Work the other shoulder in the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams. Sew the side seams from the markers to the armholes = 4 cm = 1½" split in each side. SLEEVE EDGES: Use crochet hook size 4 MM = US 6. Fasten the strand with 1 slip stitch in the side seam and work 1 single crochet. * Work 3 chain stitches, skip 1 cm =⅜", work 1 single crochet in stitch below *, repeat from *-* around the armhole. Finish the round with 1 slip stitch in the first single crochet. NECK: Use crochet hook size 4 MM = US 6. Fasten the strand with 1 slip stitch in one shoulder seam and work 1 single crochet. * Work 3 chain stitches, skip 1 cm =⅜", work 1 single crochet in stitch below *, repeat from *-* around the neck. Finish the round with 1 slip stitch in the first single crochet. |
