Under the Section entitled "Body", paragraphs 1-4, the stitch count is consistently 262. In the 5th paragraph, the stitch count drops to 136. In the 6th paragraph, the stitch count is once again the original 262. What is missing in the 5th paragraph that accounts for the other 131 stitches? I await your response. I am currently knitting this item and eagerly look forward to your explanation. Thanks very much. Terri M

Decrease for armholes on the inside of the 5 sts (in garter st, see instructions for decreasing above) 1 st every row 4 (5-7) times, then 1 st every other row 4 (4-5) times, then 1 st every 4th row 3 times. When the work measures 76 (81-86) cm [29-⅞" (31-⅞" - 33-⅞")], knit the center 36 (36-38) sts on the back in garter st. (You should bind off for the shoulder and the neck at roughly the same time, so read the rest of the pattern for the back before knitting.) When 6 rows of garter st have been knit at the center back, bind off the center 26 (26-28) sts for the neck. Then continue to knit the 5 sts on each neck edge in garter st. At the same time, when the work measures 77 (82-87) cm [30-⅜" (32.25" - 34.25")], bind off from the shoulder to the neck as on the front. The work measures approximately 80 (85-90) cm [31.5" (33.5" - 35.5")]. Assembly: Sew shoulder seams. Sew on the buttons. |
