Knit Pattern 1 once, centering the pattern across the front and back, then knit Pattern 2, centering the pattern across the front and back. When the work measures 39 (40-42) cm [15.25" (15.75" - 16.5")] bind off 16 (22-28) sts on each side for armholes, then cast 5 sts on each side on the next row (these sts are for the steeks and are not knit into the pattern). After Pattern 2 knit the rest with coal gray and garter st. When the work measures 57 (59-60) cm [22.5" (23.25" - 23-⅝")] bind off the center front 14 (16-18) sts for the neck, and knit the rest back and forth on the needles. Bind off at each neck edge every other row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 1 time. When the work measures 43.5 (43.5-44.5) cm [17-⅛" (17-⅛" - 17.5")], knit Pattern 3 to finished dimensions, centering the pattern on the sleeve. When the work measures 51 (49.5-48.5) cm [20" (19.5" - 19")] divide the work at the marker and knit the rest back and forth on the needles. After Pattern 3 the work measures approx. 56 (56-57) cm [22" (22" - 22.5")]. Now knit 2 cm [0.75"] reverse stockinette st for a seam allowance over the cut edge on the body. Bind off. Assembly: Sew a marker thread into the center of the steek sts at each side. Sew two machine seams around the markers, 1st seam = ½ st from the marker thread, 2nd seam = ½ st from 1st seam. Cut up for armholes. Sew the shoulder seams. Pick up approx. 90-111 sts (divisible by 3 sts) around the neck on smaller double pointed needles with coal gray Alaska; join and purl 1 row, knit 1 row, then knit rib. When the rib measures 8-9 cm [3-⅛" - 3.5"] bind off with Puddel. Sew the sleeves from the right side as follows: Sew alternately a st in the last row on the sleeve before the seam allowance and a st on the body after the machine seam. Turn the sweater inside out and sew the seam allowance from the sleeve over the cut edge on the body by hand. Crochet border: Crochet with double yarn from the right side with light brown as follows: 1 row of single crochet (sc) around the bottom edge of the body (approx. 110 sts) and the sleeves (approx. 24 sts). Crochet 1 row of single crochet (sc) around the bottom of the hat and ear flaps. Make a tassel band as follows: Chain 10 cm [4"], turn the work and work a row of sc. Make 2 such bands which are 10 cm [4"] in length and 1 band which is 5 cm [2"] in length. Attach the longer tassel bands at the tips of the ear flaps and the short band to the top of the hat. Make 3 tassels as follows: Cut 16 strands approx. 16 cm [6.25"] in length, tie a strand (approx. 20 cm [7-⅞"] in length) around the center and fold all the strands over double at the knotted center strand, wind a new strand (approx. 25 cm [9-⅞"] in length) 3 times around all the strands approx. 1 cm [3/8"] down from the center, tie a knot and cut off.
