Gauge: 18 sts x 23 rows in stockinette st = 10 x 10 cm
Increasing tips (for button band):
Inc inside of 2 edge sts in garter st by making a yo. On the next row, twist and P the yo (wrong side row) or twist and K (on right side rows).
Knitting tips (for neckband):
Dec 1 st inside of 2 edge sts in garter st as follows:
From right side:
After 2 edge sts: Slip 1 st as if to knit, K 1, psso.
Before 2 edge sts: K 2 tog.
From wrong side:
After 2 edge sts: P 2 tog.
Before 2 edge sts: P 2 tog, twisting sts. This can be easily accomplished by slipping 2 sts, return them to left needle, twisting each, then P 2 tog.
Back: Cast on 70-78-84-96-106 sts with 1 strand Muskat + 1 strand each color Glitter (= 5 strands). Knit 4 rows garter st and change to stockinette st. When the piece measures 5 cm inc 1 st at each side every 5-7-7-10-10 cm a total of 5-4-4-3-3 times = 80-86-92-102-112 sts.
When the piece measures 29-30-31-32-33 cm bind off for armhole at each side every other row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1-1-2-3-4 times and 1 st 1-2-2-4-6 times = 68-72-74-76-78 sts.
When the piece measures 44-46-48-50-52 cm knit 4 rows with garter st over the center 26-28-28-30-30 sts. Then bind off the center 22-24-24-26-26 sts for the neck. Then dec 1 st at each neck edge every other row – see knitting tips above: 2 times = 21-22-23-23-24 sts remain on each shoulder. Bind off when the piece measures 48-50-52-54-56 cm.
Right front: Cast on 28-32-35-41-46 sts with 1 strand Muskat and 1 strand each color Glitter (= 5 strands).
Read the entire section before continuing.
Inc at the center front: Knit 4 rows garter st and then change to stockinette st, keeping the 2 outermost sts at the center front edge in garter st to finished measurements, increasing 1 st at the center front edge on the 1st row – see increasing tips.
Continue to inc 1 st at center front edge every 4th row: 14-15-16-17-18 times, and then every other row: 9-8-7-6-5 times.
Side incs: When the piece measures 5 cm inc at the side as on back.
Armhole: When the piece measures 29-30-31-32-33 cm bind off for armhole at the side as on back.
Neckband: After last inc at the center front (the piece measures approx. 31-32-33-34-35 cm) shape the neck at the center front as follows: * knit 2 rows garter st over only the outermost 2 sts at the center front (do not knit the other sts), then knit 2 rows over all sts (the outermost 2 sts in garter st, the remaining sts in stockinette st), and at the same time dec 1 st inside of the 2 sts in garter st both from right side and wrong side – see knitting tips above *, repeat * - * until you have decreased 30-31-31-32-32 sts = 21-22-23-23-24 sts remain on shoulder. Make sure the bound-off edge is a little tight so it doesn’t stretch out. Continue in stockinette st, keeping 2 sts in garter st at the neck edge until piece measures 48-50-52-54-56 cm, bind off all sts.
Left front: Cast on and knit the same as the right, reversing shaping.
Sleeve: Cast on 47-49-51-52-54 sts with 1 strand Muskat + 1 strand of each color Glitter (= 5 strands). Knit 6 rows garter st (1st row = right side) then K 1 row and P 1 row. Continue in reverse stockinette st until piece measures 15 cm. K 2 rows (first row right side row), P 2 rows, 2 rows garter st, then continue in stockinette st to finished measurements.
When the piece measures 18-18-20-21-18 cm inc 1 st at each side every 4-3.5-2.5-2-2 cm a total of 8-9-11-12-14 times = 63-67-73-76-82 sts.
When sleeve measures 49-48-48-47-46 cm bind off for sleeve cap at each side every other row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 2 times and 1 st 2-3-3-5-6 times, continue to bind off 2 sts at each side until piece measures 55-55-55-56-56 cm, then bind off 3 sts 1 time at each side. Bind off the remaining sts, the piece measures approx. 56-56-56-57-57 cm.
Assembly: Sew shoulder seams. Sew in sleeves. Sew sleeve and side seams using edge sts as seam allowance. Close the cardigan with a sweater pin or brooch.
