GARTER ST (back and forth on needle): K all rows.
GARTER ST (in the round): K 1 round, P 1 round.
DECREASING TIP (applies to top):
Make all dec from RS! Work row until 1 st before st with marker, slip 1 st as if to K, K2 tog, psso.
Cast on 64-72-80 sts with navy blue on needle size 3 mm / US 2½. K 7 rows (first row = RS). Work next row as follows (from WS): K 27-31-35 sts, bind off 10 sts, K 27-31-35 sts, cut the thread. Turn, slip first half of the sts on a stitch holder (= left side).
RIGHT CUP: = 27-31-35 sts. Insert a marker in the middle st. W 4 rows garter st with white and 2 rows garter st with navy blue alternately, AT THE SAME TIME on first row inc 1 st each side of the middle st – inc by making 1 YO and K YO into back of loop on return row. Repeat the inc on every other row a total of 4 times = 35-39-43 sts. When piece measures 6 cm / 2 3/8'' (from cast on row) dec 1 st each side of the middle st on next row from RS – SEE DECREASING TIP! Repeat the dec on every 4th row a total of 15-17-19 times = 5 sts left on needle (= strap). Continue in garter st with white until strap measures approx 30-35 cm / 11 3/4"-13 3/4". Now finish strap as follows: K1, slip 1 st as if to K, K2 tog, psso, K1, K the remaining 3 sts on return row, turn piece, slip 1 st as if to K, K2 tog, psso, cut the thread and pull through the last st.
Pick up approx 40 to 50 sts on needle size 3 mm / US 2½ with white along the side of cup towards mid front – beg at the bottom in the white garter st stripe and finish in the last navy blue garter st row (i.e. up to the strap). K 1 row, AT THE SAME TIME make 1 YO between all sts = approx 80 to 100 sts. Change to needle size 4 mm / US 6 and work 4 rows stockinette st. Change to navy blue, K 1 row from RS, and then bind off in K sts from WS.
Sew the upper edge of flounce to the strap and sew the bottom edge of flounce to the sts bind off in the navy blue garter st stripe at the beg – sew to the first 5 sts (to fit flounce from left cup to the other 5 sts).
Pick up 5 sts with navy blue on needle size 3 mm / US 2½ along the side of the 7 rows garter st from the beg. Work garter st back and forth on needle until string measures approx 40 to 50 cm / 15 3/4" to 19 3/4", finish in the same way as for strap.
Like right cup.
Worked in the round on circular needle from the waist down towards bottom edge. Cast on 140-160-180-200-220 sts on circular needle size 3.5 mm / US 4 with white. Work 4 rounds GARTER ST – see above. Work next round as follows: * K2 tog, 1 YO *, repeat from *-* (eyelet row). Change to circular needle size 4 mm / US 6 and continue in stockinette st, AT THE SAME TIME insert 10 markers in piece with 14-16-18-20-22 sts between each. On round 2 in stockinette st inc 1 st before each marker by making 1 YO – on next round K YO into back of loop to avoid a hole. Repeat the inc on every 10th round a total of 4 times = 180-200-220-240-260 sts – NOTE: Inc before and after markers alternately to make the inc even. REMEMBER THE GAUGE!
When piece measures 32-34-36-38-40 cm / 12½"-13 3/8"-14 1/4"-15"-15 3/4" change to navy blue. Work 8 rows garter st, change back to white and work next round as follows: * K1, 1 YO *, repeat from *-* across the round = 360-400-440-480-520 sts. K 1 round – K YO into back of loop to avoid a hole. Now K 6 rounds, change to navy blue, K 1 round and bind off in P sts.
Cut 2 threads navy blue measuring approx 3-3.5-3.5-4-4 meters/3.3-3.8-3.8-4.4-4.4 yds each. Twist them hard, fold then double and let them twist again. Tie a knot each end and thread string through eyelet row at the waist – beg mid front.
