Knitting gauge: 17 sts x 22 rows on needles size 5 mm / US 8 knitted in stockinette sts using 1 strand of each quality = 10 x 10 cm / 4'' x 4''.
Because of the texture of the pattern the garment will contract a little, but it is very elastic.
Pattern: See diagram M.1. The diagram is seen from the RS.
Front band: (from the RS) 2 garter sts, K2, P2 and 2 garter sts.
Garter sts back and forth: Knit all rows.
Decreasing tips (For the neckline): Dec. inside the 8 front band sts at the mid front. All dec. are done from the RS.
Dec. as follows before/after 8 band sts: P2 tog.
Button holes: bind off for button holes at the right front band.
1 button hole = 2 garter sts, K2, make a yo, P 2 tog and 2 garter sts.
Bind off for button holes when the piece measures:
Size S: 2, 8, 15, 22, 29 cm / 3/4",3 1/8",6",8 3/4",11 3/8"
Size M: 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 cm / 3/4",3½",6 1/4",9",11 3/4"
Size L: 2, 10, 17, 24, 31 cm / 3/4",4",6 3/4",9½",12 1/4"
Size XL: 2, 10, 17, 24, 32 cm / 3/4",4",6 3/4",9½",12½"
Size XXL: 2, 10, 18, 25, 33 cm / 3/4",4",7",9 3/4",13"

Back piece:
Work back and forth on straight needles.
Cast on 72-78-84-90-102 sts (includes 1 edge st each side) on needles size 5 mm / US 8 with 1 strand of each quality.
K 2 rows of garter sts.
Continue as follows (from the RS): 1 edge st in garter st, P1, *K2, P4*, repeat from *-* and finish with K2, P1 and 1 edge st in garter st.
When the piece measures 10 cm / 4'' inc. 1 st each side, repeat on every 10-7-7-7-8 cm / 4"-2 3/4"-2 3/4"-2 3/4"-3 1/8" a total of 3-4-4-4-4 times = 78-86-98-110 sts (P new sts). When the piece measures 33-34-35-36-37 cm / 13"-13 3/8"-13 3/4"-14 1/4"-14½" bind off for armholes each side on every other row as follows: 3 sts 1-1-1-1-2 times, 2 sts 2-3-3-4-4 times and 1 st 1-2-3-4-5 times = 62-64-68-68-72 sts.
Continue until the piece measures 47-49-51-53-55 cm / 18½"-19 1/4"-20"-21"-21½". Now work the mid 34-34-38-38-38 sts *K2, P2*, repeat from *-* and finish with K2 (work other sts as before).
When the piece measures 50-52-54-56-58 cm / 19¾''-20½''-21¼''-22''-22¾'' bind off the mid 18-18-22-22-22 sts for the neck= 22-23-23-23-25 sts left for each shoulder.
Continue to work with K over K and P over P, but K 2 sts towards the neck in garter sts. When the piece measures 52-54-56-58-60 cm / 20½"-21 1/4"-22"-22 3/4"-23½" bind off loosely with K over K and P over P.
Left front:
Cast on 40-43-46-49-55 sts (includes 8 front band sts and 1 edge st) on needles size 5 mm / US 8 with 1 strand of each quality. K2 rows of garter sts.
Work the next row as follows beg at the side (from the RS):
Size S: 1 edge st in garter st, P2, K2, P4, K2, P2, M.1 (=17 sts), P2 and 8 front band sts (see explanation).
Size M: 1 edge st in garter st, P1, K2, P2, K2, P4, K2, P2, M.1 (= 17 sts), P2 and 8 front band sts (see explanation).
Size L: 1 edge st, P2, K2, P4, K2, P4, K2, P2, M.1 (= 17 sts) P2 and 8 front band sts (see explanation)
Size XL: 1 edge st in garter st, P1, K2, P2, K2, P4, K2, P4, K2, P2, M.1 (= 17 sts), P2 and 8 front band sts (see explanation)
Size XXL: 1 edge st in garter st P1, K2, P2, K2, P4, K2, P4, K2, P4, K2, P2, M.1 (= 17 sts), P2 and 8 front band sts (see explanation).
Continue this way.
At the same time when the piece measures 10 cm / 4'' inc. 1 st at the side, repeat on every 10-7-7-7-8 cm / 4"-2 3/4"-2 3/4"-2 3/4"-3 1/8" a total of 3-4-4-4-4 times = 43-47-50-53-59 sts (P new sts).
Continue until the piece measures 30-31-32-33-34 cm / 11 3/4"-12 1/4"-12½"-13"-13 3/8" and then K2 rows back and forth over the 8 front band sts (do not work the other sts) This will make the neck shape even.
Then continue to work over all sts as before and dec. 1 st towards the neck at the mid front – read decreasing tips: on every other row a total of 5-4-7-6-5 times and on every 4th row a total of 8-9-8-9-10 times. At the same time substitute M.1 with following: K2, P4, K5, P4, K2 (change after 1 completed repeat of M.1)
At the same time when the piece measures 33-34-35-36-37 cm / 13"-13 3/8"-13 3/4"-14 1/4"-14½" bind off for sleeve hole as done for the back piece.
After all dec. for the armhole and neck are completed = 22-23-23-23-25 sts left for the shoulder.
Work until the piece measures 52-54-56-58-60 cm / 20½"-21 1/4"-22"-22 3/4"-23½".
Bind off loosely with K over K and P over P.
Right front:
Work as left front but reverse. Remember to bind off for button holes – see explanation above.
Sleeve:
Work back and forth on straight needles.
Cast on 43-45-47-49-51 sts (includes 1 edge st each side) on needle size 5 mm / US 8 with 1 strand of each quality. K2 rows of garter sts.
Continue as follows (seen from the RS):
Size S: 1 edge st in garter, P2, K2, P4, K2, P2, M.1 (= 17 sts), P2, K2, P4, K2, P2 and 1 edge st in garter.
Size M: 1 edge st in garter, P3, K2, P4, K2, P2, M.1 (= 17 sts), P2, K2, P4, K2, P3 and 1 edge st in garter.
Size L: 1 edge st in garter, P4, K2, P4, K2, P2, M.1 (= 17 sts), P2, K2, P4, K2, P4 and 1 edge sts in garter.
Size XL: 1 edge st in garter, P1, K2, P2, K2, P4, K2, P2, M.1 (= 17 sts), P2, K2, P4, K2, P2, K2, P1 and 1 edge st in garter.
Size XXL: 1 edge st in garter, P2, K2, P2, K2, P4, K2, P2, M.1 (= 17 sts), P2, K2, P4, K2, P2, K2, P2 and 1 edge st in garter.
At the same time when the piece measures 8 cm / 3 1/8'' inc. 1 sts each side, repeat on every 3-2.5-2-2-1.5 cm / 1 1/8"-7/8"-3/4"-3/4"-½" a total of 8-9-10-11-13 times = 59-63-67-71-77 sts ( P new sts).
At the same time when the piece measures approx. 20 cm / 8'' substitute M.1 with K2, P4, K5, P4 and K2 (change after a completed repeat of M.1).
Continue until the piece measures 32-32-31-31-30 cm / 12½"-12½"-12 1/4"-12 1/4"-11 3/4". Bind off 3 sts each side, bind off in beg of next 2 rows.
Then bind off for the sleeve cap each side on every other row as follows: 2 sts 3 times and 1 st 2-3-4-5-6 times. Continue to bind off 2 sts each side until the piece measures 40-41-41-42-42 cm / 15 3/4"-16 1/8"-16 1/8"-16½"-16½". Then bind off 3 sts each side. Bind off remaining sts, piece measures approx. 41-42-42-43-43 cm / 16 1/8"-16½"-16½"-17"-17".
Assembly:
Sew the shoulder seams (the difference in the texture pattern can make P and K sts not match at the shoulder). Sew in the sleeves. Sew the sleeve and the side seams inside 1 edge st. Sew in the buttons.
