I do not know what this means, "Cast on 14-15-16 sts in between the ear-flaps at mid front = 45-50-55 sts. How can I cast on stitches "in between" the ear flaps at mid-front? Switching to the DP needles is the next step, not this one. Thank you.

Dear Barbara, you should now have a back part with the 2 earflaps on the side. Now, in the last row, you cast on stitches on one side of an earflap and join these stitches to the other earflap. You can see here how you can cast on stitches at the side of one earflap: https://www.garnstudio.com/video.php?id=94&lang=en. Then just join this new section to the 2nd earflap. Now you will have a round piece and start working with double pointed needles. Happy knitting!

Merci

Bonjour Annie, on mesure à partir du devant du bonnet, mention rajoutée, merci. Bon tricot !

Sevinc, we used dpn size 8 mm, but if you have a short circular 8 mm it works just as well to begin with, but once you start dec then you will have to switch to the dpn's anyway.

Is this hat made with 8mm circular needles please?

Gauge: 11 sts x 15 rows on needles size 8 mm / US 11 in stockinette sts. = 10 x 10 cm / 4" x 4". 11 sts x 23 rows on needle size 8 mm / US 11 in garter sts = 10 x 10 cm / 4" x 4". Garter sts (back and forth on needle): Knit all rows. Garter sts (in the round on circular needles): K 1st round, P 2nd round. Back piece including ear-flaps: Cast on 31-35-39 sts on needles size 8 mm / US 11 with 2 strands of gray beige. Remove one of the strands and continue to knit as explained below: Please read all of the next section before continuing: K 1 row over all sts,* K 1 row over the first 3-4-5 sts, turn and K back, K 1 row over all sts, turn and K 1 row over the first 3-4-5 sts (opposite side), turn and K back, K 1 row over all sts*, repeat from *-* but K 1 st less each side for the ear-flap each time (i.e. at the next row K over the first 2-3-4 sts, and so on) until 0 sts remaining for the flap. There are now 12-16-20 rows of garter st each outer side of the ear flaps. Hat: Cast on 14-15-16 sts in between the ear-flaps at mid front = 45-50-55 sts. Distribute all sts on 4 double pointed needles and continue to work the hat in the round. Work 6 rounds of garter sts and then continue in stockinette sts until finished measurements. REMEMBER THE GAUGE! At the same time, when the hat measures 9-10-11 cm / 3½"-4"-4½" from mid front, insert 5 markers with 9-10-11 sts between each marker. Continue to dec as follows: K2 tog after each marker on every other round 6-6-7 times and then on every round 2-3-3 times = 5 sts left. Cut the yarn and pull it through the remaining sts, fasten. The hat measures approx. 17-19-21 cm / 6¾"-7½"-8¼" from mid front and to the top. |
