Can you more easily explain the 'collar' part of the instructions on the DROPS 92-6 knitting pattern?
19.01.2021 - 08:30DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Pineda, when you have cast off the stitches for shoulder, there are 24-28 sts left on needle for the collar. You will now work these stitches in stocking stitch with short rows, ie starting from RS work: *2 rows overthe first 18-21 sts, 2 rows over all sts* - to avoid holes you can work as explained or with the w&t technique (=see from RS and from WS. Repeat from *to* until collar measures 6-7 m from shoulder (= 12-14 cm on the longest side). Happy knitting!

I love the beautiful drop design patterns and have been looking at them for years wanting to give them a try but as I knit from UK patterns and not a super experienced knitter I get put off by the pattern format and the wording for example I. Have only just discovered bind means casting off. Does any one else have this issue?

Is the collar knitted separate from the cardigan?
07.06.2015 - 04:31DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Tarter, the collar is worked over the sts remaining on front piece after you bind off the sts for shoulder. The collar is worked almost as in the video below + work here in stocking st with short rows to get the correct shape. Happy knitting!

I am ready to do the collar and am totally lost. Could I have easier directions. I consider myself an experienced knitter and am using beautiful eskimo yarn so I hate to give up making the cardigan. Thanks for any help you can give!!!
07.06.2015 - 04:27DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Tarter, after binding off the sts for shoulder, you continue back and forth in short rows over the 24-28 remaining sts for collar: 2 rows over all sts then *2 rows over the first 18-21 sts towards mid front, 2 rows over all sts* repeat from *-* until collar measures 6-7 from the shoulder and 12-14 cm towards midfront. Happy knitting!

Hei! Takknemlig for svar=)

DROPS 9 mm [US 13] needles, or size needed to obtain correct gauge. Crochet hook for buttonhole loop Gauge: 10 sts x 14 rows in stockinette st = 10 x 10 cm. Rib: * K 4, P 4 *, repeat from * - *. Back: Loosely cast on 52-56-60-65-70 sts with Snow and K 2 rows garter st. Change to stockinette st. When the piece measures 15 cm dec 1 st at each side. Repeat dec when the piece measures 30 and 45 cm = 46-50-54-59-64 sts. When the piece measures 52-53-54-55-56 cm bind off for armhole at each side every other row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 0-0-1-2-3 times and 1 st 2-3-3-3-3 times = 36-38-38-39-40 sts. When the piece measures 70-72-74-76-78 cm bind off the center 10-10-10-11-12 sts for the neck. On the next row dec 1 st at each neck edge = 12-13-13-13-13 sts remain on each shoulder. Bind off when the piece measures 72-74-76-78-80 cm. Right front: Cast on 10-10-12-13-15 sts with Snow. Knit 2 rows garter st. Read the entire next section before knitting: Knit stockinette st, keeping the outermost st at the center front edge in garter st to finished measurements. Rounded edge + shawl collar: After the 2 rows garter st, cast on new sts at the center front edge every other row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1-2-2-2-2 times and 1 st 7-7-8-10-10 times, then every 4 row: 1 st 6-6-5-5-5 times (= rounded edge). When the piece measures 34-34-36-36-36 cm cast on new sts at the center front every other row: 1 st 2 times and 2 sts 2 times, then every 4 row: 2 sts 5 times and 1 st 0-1-2-2-3 times (= shawl collar). Side dec: When the piece measures 15, 30 and 45 cm dec at the side as on back. Armhole: When the piece measures 52-53-54-55-56 cm bind off for armhole at the side as on back. After all shaping is complete you have 36-38-39-40-41 sts. Continue until piece measures 72-74-76-78-80 cm. Now bind off the 12-13-13-13-13 outermost sts for shoulder = 24-25-26-27-28 collar sts remain on needles. Collar: The collar is knit in stockinette st and sewn to back neck afterwards. Knit 2 rows stockinette st over all sts, * 2 rows over only the outermost 18-19-20-20-21 sts at the center front edge, 2 rows over all sts but after 18-19-20-20-21 sts on the first of these 2 rows pull up yarn between sts, twist and knit (as seen from right side) together with first st on left needle (to prevent a hole) *, repeat * - * until the collar measures approx. 6 - 7 cm on short side (and measures approx. 12 - 14 cm on outer edge – lay the collar along neckband to see if it is the right length to reach center back), put sts on a st holder. Left front: Cast on and knit the same as the right, reversing shaping. Sleeve: Loosely cast on 26-26-34-34-34 sts and P 1 row (wrong side row), then knit rib, keeping 1 edge st in garter st at each side. When the piece measures 14 cm change to stockinette st, adjusting (dec/inc as needed) to 26-28-28-30-30 sts on the 1st row. When the piece measures 16 cm inc 1 st at each side every 6-6-5-4.5-3 cm a total of 6-6-7-7-9 times = 38-40-42-44-48 sts. When sleeve measures 48-48-48-46-45 cm bind off for sleeve cap at each side every other row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1-1-2-2-2 times and 1 st 1-1-2-3-4 times, then bind off 2 sts at each side until piece measures 55-56-57-57-57 cm and then bind off 3 sts 1 time at each side. Bind off the remaining sts, the piece measures approx. 56-57-58-58-58 cm. Assembly: Sew shoulder seams. Join the collar ends with Kitchener st (see Fig. 1 on page 21 of Drops No. 92). Sew the collar to back neck with the seam on the right side so it will not be seen when the collar is folded out. Sew in sleeves. Sew sleeve and side seams using edge sts as a seam allowance. Fringe: Fasten fringe tufts along entire edge on the cardigan. 1 fringe tuft = cut 2 strands Snow + 2 strands Puddel approx. approx. 35 - 40 cm. Fold strands in half and pull loops through the outermost sts, pull ends through loops. Place fringe tufts approx. 5 cm apart. Buttonhole loop: Crochet 1 buttonhole loop on wrong side of right front. The loop should be approx. 38-40-40-42-44 cm from shoulder, and approx. 4 - 6 sts in from center front (or so cardigan fits as desired). 1 sc in st, ch 4, 1 sc in the same st, cut yarn and fasten. Sew button on left front. CAP: Sizes: one-size Materials: DROPS SNOW from Garnstudio 150 gr nr 14, charcoal grey DROPS 8 mm [US L] crochet hook, or size needed to obtain correct gauge. Crochet gauge: 8 hdc = approx. 10 cm in width. Crochet tips: Replace the first hdc of every row with ch 2. Every row finishes with 1 sl st in 2nd ch at start of row. Decreasing tips: Dec 1 hdc by crocheting together 2 hdc as follows: crochet 1 hdc, but do not pull the last loop through, leave it on hook (= 3 loops on hook), crochet the next hdc and pull last loop through all loops on hook. CAP Ch 4 and join into a ring with 1 sl st in 1st ch. Round 1: 8 hdc in ring Round 2: 2 hdc in each hdc from previous row – crochet through only the back loop on all rows so a ridge forms = 16 hdc. Round 3: * 1 hdc in first hdc, 2 hdc in the next hdc *, repeat * - * around = 24 hdc. Round 4: * 1 hdc in each of the next 2 hdc, 2 hdc in the next hdc *, repeat * - * = 32 hdc Round 5: * 1 hdc in each of the next 3 hdc, 2 hdc in the next hdc *, repeat * - * = 40 hdc Round 6: * 1 hdc in each of the next 4 hdc, 2 hdc in the next hdc *, repeat * - * = 48 hdc Round 7: * 1 hdc in each of the next 5 hdc, 2 hdc in the next hdc *, repeat * - * = 56 hdc Round 8: * 1 hdc in each of the next 6 hdc, 2 hdc in the next hdc *, repeat * - * = 64 hdc Rounds 9-12: 1 hdc in each hdc = 64 hdc. Round 13: * 6 hdc, then crochet the 7th and 8th hdc together (see decreasing tips above) *, repeat * - * = 56 hdc. Round 14: * 5 hdc, then crochet the 6th and 7th hdc together *, repeat * - * = 48 hdc. Round 15: * 4 hdc, then crochet the 5th and 6th hdc together *, repeat * - * = 40 hdc. Rounds 16-18: 1 sc in each hdc = 40 sc. BRIM Crochet brim with double strands along the center 18 sts fram as follows: Round 1: 1 hdc in each st = 18 hdc. Rounds 2-4: turn the work, ch 2, crochet together the next 2 hdc (see instructions above), 1 hdc in each hdc to last 2 hdc, crochet these together = 14 hdc. Round 5: 1 row sc around edge of cap and brim (1 sc in each st). Decorative stripes: Place a marker at each side of cap in the 16th row. 1 sl st in the st with the marker, make st approx. 1 - 1.5 cm long, 1 sl st in row 15, make st approx. 1 - 1.5 cm long, 1 sl st in row 14 – continue in this manner up to top of cap and down the other side. Make second stripe. Cut yarn and fasten. SCARF: Measurements: approx. 15 x 80 cm [5-⅞" x 31.5"] Materials: DROPS PUDDEL from Garnstudio 100 gr nr 03, brown DROPS 7 mm [US 10½] needles, or size needed to obtain correct gauge. Gauge: 10 sts x 14 rows in stockinette st = 10 x 10 cm. Scarf: Cast on 15 sts around 2 needles (so that the edge will be elastic). Pull out one needle and K 1 row (wrong side row). Then knit stockinette st until the piece measures approx. 79 cm. K 1 row (wrong side row) and bind off loosely. |
