DECREASE TIP: Dec by inserting hook through first sl st (front loop), insert hook through next sl st (front loop), get the yarn and pull yarn through both sts = 1 sl st dec.

After last st on the round, continue to next round with 1 st in next st (= first st on next round). NOTE: Insert a marker at the beg of round between last st and first st on the round, move the marker upwards.

Worked in the round from cuff and up. READ WORK IN THE ROUND IN A CIRCLE! Ch 32-36-40 LOOSELY on hook size 5 mm / H/8 with purple (ch-row should measure approx. 23-25-28 cm / 9”-10”-11”, or work until desired length, the mitten will be approx. 7-8 cm / 2¾”-3” more narrow than ch-row) and form 1 ring with 1 sl st in first ch.
Work 1 round with sl sts in loops on the back of ch-row.
Then work 1 sl st in back loop of every sl st the entire round until piece measures approx. 3-4-5 cm / 1’’-1½’’-2’’ = 32-36-40 sl sts.
Then work 1 sl st in front loop on every sl st the entire round until piece measures approx. 8-8-9 cm / 3”-3”-4”.
Now make an opening for thumb by working 5-6-6 LOOSE ch at beg of round, skip the next 5-6-6 sl sts and continue with sl sts in the round as before (opening for thumb will be approx. 5-6-6 cm / 2”-2½”-2½” in circumference, but can be made larger or smaller by inc or dec no of ch, skip in that case same no of sl sts as ch worked).
On next round work 1 sl st in each of the 5-6-6 ch worked for thumb opening = 32-36-40 sl sts.
Continue in the round the same way until piece measures 16-17-19 cm / 6¼”-6¾”-7½”, or to desired length (approx. 2-2-2 cm / 3/4”-3/4”-3/4” remain until finished measurements).
On next round dec – READ DECREASE TIP – by working 2 sts tog the entire round = 16-18-20 sl sts.
Continue dec this way the next 2 rounds = 4-5-5 sl sts.
Cut the yarn and pull it through the remaining sts.
Tighten tog and fasten.
Mitten measures approx. 18-19-21 cm / 7’’-7½’’-8¼’’.

Work 12-14-14 sl sts around the opening on thumb (1 sl st in each of the 5-6-6 skipped and 1 sl st in each of the 5-6-6 ch worked + 1 sl st in each side).
Work sl sts in the round as before. When thumb measures approx. 3½-4½-5½ cm / 1¼”-1¾”-2¼” (or desired length), dec by working 2 sts tog around – READ DECREASE TIP = 6-7-7 sl sts.
Cut the yarn and pull it through the remaining sts.
Tighten tog and fasten.
