DROPS circular and double pointed needles size 5 mm / US 8 and pointed needles size 8 mm / US 11 or size needed to obtain the correct gauge

NOTE: This pattern is written in American English. All measurements in charts are in cm. For conversion from cm to inch - click here. There are different terms for crocheting in British and American English. If this pattern includes crochet, click for "crochet terms" here.
Knitting gauge:
12 sts x 17 rows on needles size 8 mm / US 11 with Vivaldi (single strand) in stockinette st = 10 x 10 cm / 4'' x 4''.
17 sts x 22 rows on needle size 5 mm / US 8 with Vivaldi and Alpaca (double strands) in Rib = 10 x 10 cm / 4'' x 4''.

Rib: *K1, P2*, repeat from *-*.

Back and front piece:
The bolero is in reverse stockinette sts!
Cast on 86-91-96 sts using 2 needles size 8 mm / US 11 (to ensure the edge becomes elastic) with Vivaldi.
Remove 1 needle and continue in stockinette sts.
When piece measures 13-14-15 cm / 5"-5½"-6" bind off 1 st each side in beg of every row a total of 1-1-2 times each side = 84-89-92 sts.
Continue in stockinette sts until piece measures 50-53-55 cm / 19 3/4"-21"-21½" and now inc 1 st each side on every other row a total of 1-1-2 times.
Continue in stockinette sts until piece measures 64-68-72 cm / 25 1/4"-26 3/4"-28½" and bind off loosely.

Fold piece double with WS out and sew side seams.
Pick up 243-258-273 sts (divisible by 3) on circular needle size 5 mm / US 8 with 1 strand Vivaldi and 1 strand Alpaca (double strands) along the casting on and binding off edge = bottom edge of bolero.
Work 8 cm / 3 1/8'' in Rib - read explanation above.
On next round inc all P2 to P3 = 324-344-364 sts.
Continue until Rib measures 10 cm / 4'' and bind off loosely.
Pick up 66-75-81 sts (divisible by 3) on double pointed needles size 5 mm / US 8 round the armhole with 1 strand of each quality.
Work 5 cm / 2'' in Rib and bind off loosely.
Repeat around the other armhole.
