Bon tricot!

I can work out how the split for the zip works it is different to another pattern I looked at in that it does not seem to identify the mid front steek stitches for the neck split. The 15 stitch bind/cast off either side of the front edge of the neck would seem to apply to the bit of the neck above the neck split. Is this a mistake or a bit missed out of the pattern? Help please!
14.11.2015 - 15:47DROPS Design answered:
Dear Bridget, in this pattern, there are no steek sts for neck split. When piece measures 48 cm (larger size) you divide work at mid front and continue back and forth on needle starting rows on split for neck, then bind off for neckline 15 sts at the beg of next 2 rows (15 sts from RS on first front piece + 15 sts from WS on 2nd front piece). Happy knitting!

Gauge: 20 cm x 26 rows on larger needles in stockinette st = 10 x 10 cm [4" x 4"]. Rib: * K 2, purl 2 *. Repeat from *-*. Garter Stitch, when knitting flat: Knit all sts all rows. Pattern: See chart. (1 chart = 1 repeat). The pattern is seen from the right side and is knit entirely in stockinette st. Arrows indicate the starting points for different sizes on the large charts; the chart for Pattern 5 is identical for all sizes. Dame = Women’s Herre = Men’s Pattern body: Knit Pattern as follows: * Pattern 1, Pattern 2, Pattern 1, Pattern 3 *. Repeat from * - * to finished dimensions. Body: Numbers in ( ) = men's sizes. Cast on 188-192-200 (200-208) sts on smaller circular needles with coal gray; join and place a marker at the join. Knit rib for 6 cm [2-⅜"]. Change to larger circular needles and knit Pattern for the body (see instructions above), increasing 40-48-52 (40-44) evenly distributed on the 1st row = 228-240-252 (240-252) sts. Begin at the appropriate arrow on the charts and knit pattern across the front = 114-120-126 (120-126) sts, begin at the arrow again and knit pattern across the back = 114-120-126 (120-126) sts. When the work measures 33-35-36 (39-41) cm [13" - 13.75" - 14-⅛" (15.25" - 16-⅛")], knit the next row as follows: 114-120-126 (120-126) sts for the front, inc 4 sts (steek sts which are not knit into the pattern), 114-120-126 (120-126) sts for the back, inc 4 sts (steek sts which are not knit into the pattern). When the work measures 38-40-42 (45-48) cm [14-⅞" - 15.75" - 16.5" (17.75" - 18-⅞"), divide the work in two at the center front and knit the rest back and forth on the needles. Keep the two edge sts at each side of the split in garter st. When the work measures 54-56-58 (61-64) cm [21.25" - 22" - 22-⅞" (24" - 25.25")], bind off 11-12-12 (14-15) sts at each front edge (split) for the neck. Then bind off at each neck edge every other row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 2 times, 1 st 1 time. At the same time, when the work measures 58-60-62 (65-68) cm [22-⅞" - 23-⅝" - 24-⅜" (25-⅝" - 26.75")], bind off the center back 34-36-36 (40-42) sts for the neck. Bind off 2 sts at each back neck edge on the next row. Bind off when the work measures approx. 60-62-64 (67-70) cm [23-⅝" - 24-⅜" - 25.25" (26-⅜" - 27-⅝")] (adjust for complete pattern). Sleeves: Cast on 48-48-52 (52-56) sts on smaller double pointed needles with coal gray; join and place a marker at the join. Knit rib for 5 cm [2"]. Change to larger double pointed needles and knit Pattern 4 once, increasing 8-8-4 (4-0) sts evenly distributed on the 1st row = 56-56-56 (56-56) sts. After the rib, inc 1 st each side of marker 26-26-28 (28-30) times: Sizes Women's S+M and Men's M/L: alternately every 3rd and 4th row Size Women's L: every 3rd row Size Men's S/M: every 4th row = 108-108-112 (112-116) sts. After Pattern 4 repeat Pattern 5 to finished dimensions. At the same time, when the work measures 46-46-45 (51-51) cm [18-⅛" - 18-⅛" - 17.75" (20" - 20"), put 2 sts each side of marker on a stitch holder and knit the rest back and forth on the needles. Then put sts on a stitch holder at each side for sleeve caps every other row: 11-11-12 (12-13) sts 3 times. The work measures approx. 49-49-48 (54-54) cm [19.25" - 19.25" - 18-⅞" (21.25" - 21.25")]. Put all sts from the stitch holder back on the needles; join and knit 2 cm [0.75"] reverse stockinette st for a seam allowance over the cut edge on the body, bind off. Assembly: Sew a marker thread down through the center of the steek sts at each side. Sew 2 machine seams around the marker thread - 1st seam 1/2 st from the marker thread and the 2nd seam 1/2 st from the 1st seam. Cut up between the machine seams for armholes. Sew shoulder seams. Pick up approx. 108-112 sts around the neck on smaller double pointed needles with coal gray and knit rib back and forth on the needles for 5 cm [2"], but keep the 2 edge sts at each side of the split in garter st, bind off. Pick up approx. 48 sts with coal gray on smaller needles from the wrong side inside the garter st border along the left side of the split and knit stockinette st for 1 cm [3/8"], bind off. Repeat along the right side of the split. Now two zipper plackets have been created into which the fabric on the zipper is inserted. Sew the sleeves to the body as follows: Sew alternately a st in the last row of knitting on the sleeve before the seam allowance and a st after the machine seam on the body. Turn the sweater inside out and sew the seam allowance from the sleeve over the cut edge on the body by hand. Sew in the zipper. |
