Knitting gauge: 11 sts x 15 rows stocking sts with Eskimo = 10 x 10 cm [4’’ x 4’’].
After felting: 13.5 sts x 28 rows = 10 x 10 cm [4’’ x 4’’]
Slippers: Knit slipper in one piece with seam mid front and mid back, start at mid front on top of foot with dark grey (see measurement in cm on diagram–D below ).
Cast on 4-4-5-4 sts on needle size 8 mm [US 11] with grey Eskimo. Knit stockinette sts. Inc on each side by casting on new sts at the same time on every other row as follows:
Right side (towards heel): 2 sts 3 times, 3 sts 2 times, 5-6-7-8 sts 1 time.
Left side (towards toe): 2 sts 5-6-6-7 times, 1 sts 3 times.
Total: 34-37-39-41 sts on row.
Remember knitting gauge!
When piece measures 22-24-24-25 cm [8,75’’- 9½’’- 9½’’- 9,75’’] insert a marking thread or stitch marker = mid under foot.
Now knit other side of slipper with dec instead of inc. Start dec when there are as many sts on marking thread or stitch marker as from last inc on each side forwards to marking thread or stitch marker.
Bind off on every other row as follows:
On right side (from heel): 5-6-7-8 sts 1 time, 3 sts 2 times, 2 sts 3 times.
On left side (from toe): 1 sts 3 times, 2 sts 5-6-6-7 times = 4-4-5-4 sts left.
Bind off.
Assembly: Fold slipper mid under foot and sew seam mid top foot (incl cast on and bind off edge).
Pick up approx 55-60 sts around top opening with red (it is important that enough sts are picked up to avoid tightness). K1 round and P1 round, Bind off. Sew seams mid back (A+B) in outermost half of outermost sts.
Knit another slipper.
Felting: Regarding felting – see School of Handicraft on our mainpage.
Put slippers into washing machine with detergent without enzymes or bleach. Wash at warm (40 C) with normal spin and without pre-wash.
Afterwards, put slippers on foot and shape to correct size while still wet.
Wash slippers like wool after this.
