I have been knitting for about 50 years but really cannot follow this pattern! After the rib I really couldn't understand the instructions. What does " 4 (5) stocking sts, knit M1 (=16 sts" mean?

After posting my comment I decided to check out the pattern written in American English - and it all became clear! Much better instructions!

This pattern comes in three sizes, Small, Medium and Large, however it does not say what the measurements are for each size. Are you able to give me an idea of the measurements in each size? Thank you.

Dear Mrs Moore, these gloves are in 2 sizes: Small and Medium/Large; they should be approx. 19 cm and 21 cm around the hand. Happy knitting!

One of your patterns for gloves that after the right glove I should mirror the pattern to knit the other glove. How do I do that?!

When establish pattern: 4 (5) sts stockinette st, Pattern 1 (= 16 sts), 4 (5) sts stockinette st (= top of hand), 21 (23) sts stockinette st and then 1 st stockinette st for thumb (put a marker in this st)(= inside of hand).

Pattern: See diagram M1. The diagram shows the pattern from the right side Right glove: Cast on 54 (58) using 3mm double pointed needles and Karisma. Knit 1.5 cm moss stitch. Knit 2 cm Rib, at the same time adjusting number of sts to 46 (50) on last round of rib. Knit following round as follows: 4 (5) stocking sts, knit M1 (=16 sts), 4 (5) stocking sts (these 24 (26) sts = upper hand), 1 st stocking st for thumb (insert marking thread in this st), 21 (23) stocking sts (= palm of hand). Measure glove from here from now on! Continue in pattern. At the same time, when piece measures 1 (2) cm increase for thumb on each side of the marking thread as follows: increase 1 st on every 4th (3rd ) row a total of 5 (6) times = 56 (62) sts – knit increased sts in stocking stitch. After the last increase, put the 11 (13) thumb sts on thread. On next round, cast on 1 new st over these = 46 (50) sts. Continue until piece measures 9 (10) cm. Put the 24 (26) sts for top of hand on thread = thread 1, and the 22 (24) for palm of hand on another thread = thread 2. Littlefinger: Take 5 (5) sts from thread 1, and 4 (5) sts from thread 2, and cast on 2 new sts towards ring finger = 11 (12) sts. Knit stocking stitch until finger measures 5 (6) cm, on next round knit all sts 2 and 2 together and pull thread through remaining sts. Put all sts from both threads back on needles and knit 3 rounds in pattern and stocking stitch as before. Now put sts back on thread 1 and thread 2. Ring Finger: Take 6 (7) sts from thread 1, and 6 (6) sts from thread 2, and cast on 1 new st towards middle finger and 1 towards little finger = 14 (15) sts. Knit stocking stitch until finger measures 6 (7) cm, on next round knit all sts 2 and 2 together and pull thread through remaining sts. Middle finger: Take 7 (7) sts from thread 1, and 6 (7) sts from thread 2, and cast on 1 new st towards index finger and 1 towards ring finger = 15 (16) sts. Knit stocking stitch until finger measures 7 (8) cm, on next round knit all sts 2 and 2 together and pull thread through remaining sts. Index finger: Take 6 (7) sts from thread 1, and 6 (6) sts from thread 2, and cast on 2 new sts towards middle finger = 14 (15) sts. Knit as ring finger. Thumb: Put the 11 (13) thumb sts back on needle and cast on 3 new sts behind these = 14 (16) sts. Knit approx 5 (6) cm stocking stitch, knit all sts 2 and 2 together and cast off as on the other fingers. Knit another glove, but mirrored. |
