Edge: 3 cm stocking st, P 1 row (= folding edge), 3 cm stocking st.
Pattern: See diagram M.1, M.2 and M.3. The pattern is seen from the RS and the entire pattern is worked in stocking st. English explanations to pattern diagrams are given at the bottom of this page.

Front and back piece: Cast on 216-240-264 sts on circular needle size 2.5 mm with black and work Edge – see above. Change to needle size 3.5 mm and continue in M.1. After M.1 complete piece in black stocking st. Remember the knitting tension! When piece measures 34 cm work next row as follows: cast off 3 sts for armhole, 102-114-126 sts on front piece, cast off 6 sts for armhole, 102-114-126 sts on back piece, cast off 3 sts for armhole. Now complete each piece separately.

Front piece: = 102-114-126 sts. Cast off for armhole each side on every other row: 2 sts 1-2-2 times and 1 st 3-5-8 times = 92-96-102 sts. When piece measures 49-50-51 cm cast off the middle 20 sts for neck and complete each side separately. Cast off to shape the neckline at the beg of every row from mid front: 3 sts 1 times, 2 sts 2 times, 1 st 5-6-6 times = 24-24-28 sts left on shoulder. Cast off when piece measures 55-56-57 cm.

Back piece: = 102-114-126 sts. Cast off for armhole each side as described for front piece = 92-96-102 sts. When piece measures 53-54-55 cm cast off the middle 38-40-40 sts for neck and complete each side separately. Cast off to shape the neckline on every other row: 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 1 time = 24-25-28 sts left on shoulder. Cast off when piece measures 55-56-57 cm.

Sleeve: Cast on 48-48-56 sts on double pointed needles size 2.5 mm with black and work Edge. Change to needle size 3.5 mm and continue in M.2. After M.2 work M.3, at the same time inc 2 sts mid under arm on every 6th and 7th round alternately for size S/M, on every 5th round for size M.L and on every 6th round for size XL = 88-92-98 sts. After M.3 complete piece in black. At the same time when piece measures 48-46-45 cm cast off 6 sts mid under arm and complete piece back and forth on needle. Cast off for sleeve cap each side on every other row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 2-3-3 times, 1 st 3-4-5 times, 2 sts 2-3-3 times and 3 sts 2 times. Cast off remaining sts, piece measures approx 55 cm.

Assembly: Sew shoulder seams. Pick up approx 105 to 110 sts round neckline on needle size 2.5 mm with black and work Edge, cast off. Fold all edges double towards WS and fasten. Set in sleeves.

Change to needle size 3.5 mm and continue in M.1 in the round, at the same time inc 3 sts mid front (these 3 sts + 2 edge sts are to be cut afterwards and not incl in pattern) = 221-245-269 sts. After M.1 complete piece in black stocking st. Remember the knitting tension! When piece measures 34 cm work next row as follows: cast off 3 sts for armhole, 107-119-131 sts on front piece, cast off 6 sts for armhole, 102-114-126 sts on back piece, cast off 3 sts for armhole. Now complete each piece separately.

Front piece: = 107-119-131 sts. Cast off for armhole each side on every other row: 2 sts 1-2-2 times and 1 st 3-5-8 times = 97-101-107 sts. When piece measures 49-50-51 cm cast off the middle 20 sts + 5 sts for cutting mid front and complete each side separately. Cast off to shape the neckline at the beg of every row from mid front: 3 sts 1 times, 2 sts 2 times, 1 st 5-6-6 times = 24-24-28 sts left on shoulder. Cast off when piece measures 55-56-57 cm.

Back piece: = 102-114-126 sts. Cast off for armhole each side as described for front piece = 92-96-102 sts. Assembly: Insert a marker in the middle of the inc sts mid front. Sew 2 seams on a sewing machine around the marking thread, 1st seam = ½ st from the MT, 2nd seam = ½ st from the 1st seam. Cut mid front. Sew the shoulder seams. Pick up approx 112-120 sts along left front piece on needle size 2.5 mm with black and work Edge, cast off. Repeat along right front piece, but after 1 cm make 5 buttonholes evenly distributed. 1 buttonhole = cast off 2 sts and cast on 2 new sts on return row. Place the top buttonhole approx 8 cm from the top and bottom buttonhole approx 1 cm from bottom edge. Remember buttonholes on piece in stocking st to be folded towards WS! Fold front bands double towards WS and fasten.
Pick up approx 120 to 125 sts round neckline (also pick up on front bands) on needle size 2.5 mm with black and work Edge, but after 1 cm make 1 buttonhole in line with the others on right front band. Cast off. Fold all edges double towards WS and fasten. Set in sleeves. Sew on buttons.
