The squares are positioned according to the diagram and crocheted together. An edge of double-crochet groups is worked around the blanket to finish. GRANNY SQUARES: Read COLOR COMBINATIONS and work 1 square in each color combination, apart from SQUARE-F and SQUARE-H which are worked twice = 12 squares. Start by working 4 CHAIN STITCHES – read description above, with hook size 5 MM = US H/8 and your cast-on color. Form the chain stitches into a ring with 1 slip stitch in the first chain stitch. Work A.1 in the round, each round alternately from the right and wrong side – read GRANNY SQUARES above, and REMEMBER THE CROCHET GAUGE! Cut and fasten the strands. The square measures approx. 28 x 28 cm = 11" x 11". ASSEMBLY: Position the squares as shown in diagram A.2, making sure all the squares are right side up. The letters in the diagram refer to the letters in color combinations. Work the squares across the blanket together first, then along the blanket. Use crochet hook size 5 MM = US H/8 and color beige. Lay 2 squares edge to edge so they can be crocheted together. Start at one corner: * Insert the hook from the right side and down through the back loop on one square, then insert the hook from the right side down through the back loop on the second square, pick up the strand and pull it through both loops on the hook *, work from *-* to the next corner – make sure the crocheting is neither too loose nor too tight. Work 1 chain stitch, then repeat from *-* along the next 2 squares. Work all squares in this row together, then do the same with the other rows and finally work all the rows together lengthwise. EDGE AROUND BLANKET: Use crochet hook size 5 MM = US H/8 and color beige: Start approx. in the middle of one square and work 1 slip stitch around the chain stitch, 3 chain stitches (= 1 double crochet), 2 double crochets around the same chain stitch, 1 chain stitch, work A.1, i.e., 3 double crochets around each chain stitch and 1 chain stitch between each double-crochet group. In each transition between 2 squares, work 3 double crochets around the chain-space in each corner and 1 chain stitch between the double crochet groups. In the corners of the blanket work 3 double crochets, 1 chain stitch, 3 double crochets around the chain-space. Finish the round with 1 slip stitch in the 3rd chain stitch at the beginning of the round. Cut and fasten the strand. |
