How to work horizontal lines of double crochets (back and forth)
In this DROPS video we show you how to work horizontal lines/stripes with double crochets back and forth. The textured pattern is called Rib/Ribbing/English rib and there are many variations.
BEFORE THE VIDEO STARTS:
The pattern creates horizontal lines. We have worked a row of chain stitches to the required length, plus 1 chain stitch. Work 1 double crochet in the 2nd chain stitch from the hook, then work 1 double crochet in each chain stitch to the end of the row. Now work textured pattern (PATTERN STITCHES) as shown in the video and described below. We have already worked a few cm of the textured pattern.
THE VIDEO SHOWS:
Turn the piece, work 1 chain stitch. Then work PATTERN STITCHES as follows: Work 1 double crochet, but instead of working through the 2 stitch-loops at the top of the stitch, work though the stitch-loop just below these 2 stitch loops. To make crocheting simpler, fold the double crochets slightly backwards so it is easier to work through the stitch-loop below, work the double crochet in this stitch-loop.
Work 1 pattern stitch in each double crochet to the end of the row. Turn the piece, work 1 chain stitch, then work pattern stitches to the end of the row.
