------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge vertically = knit 2 rows. GARTER STITCH (worked in the round): 1 ridge vertically = 2 rounds, i.e. knit 1 round and purl 1 round. PATTERN: See diagram A.1. Diagrams show all rows in pattern seen from the right side. DECREASE/INCREASE TIP (evenly): To calculate how to decrease/increase evenly, use the total number of stitches on row (e.g. 110 stitches) and divide stitches by number of decreased/increases to be done (e.g. 8) = 13.8. In this example decrease by knitting approx. every 13th and 14th stitch together. When increasing make in this example 1 yarn over after approx. every 14th stitch. On next round work yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. INCREASE TIP (applies to mid under sleeves): Begin 1 stitch before marker thread, make 1 yarn over, work 2 stitches (marker thread is in the middle of these 2 stitches), make 1 yarn over (= 2 stitches increased). On next round work yarn over twisted to avoid holes. Then work the new stitches in A.1. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: Front and back piece are worked back and forth on circular needle, bottom up until vent is done. Then work the body in the round on circular needle up to armholes. Then finish front and back piece back and forth separately on circular needle until finished measurements. Work sleeves in the round on double pointed needles / a short circular needle, from the bottom and up to where sleeve cap begins, then work sleeve cap back and forth on circular needle. Sew piece together as explained in pattern. Work a high collar in rib at the end. FRONT PIECE: Cast on 55-59-65-69-75-83 stitches on circular needle size 7 mm = US 10,75 with Snow. Purl 1 row (= wrong side). Work next row as follows from right side: 3 edge stitches in GARTER STITCH for vent - read explanation above, * knit 1, purl 1 *, work from *-* until 4 stitches remain, knit 1 and finish with 3 edge stitches in garter stitch for vent. Work 4 rows in rib in total like this. Switch to circular needle size 8 mm = US 11 and work next row from right side as follows: 3 edge stitches in garter stitch, work A.1 until 4 stitches remain on row, work first stitch in A.1 (so that pattern begins and ends the same way in each side), and finish with 3 edge stitches in garter stitch. Continue pattern back and forth like this. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! When piece measures 13 cm = 5⅛", end vent. Put piece aside and work back piece as explained below. BACK PIECE: Cast on the same number of stitches as on front piece and work the same way as front piece until piece measures 13 cm = 5⅛". Now slip stitches from front piece on to same circular needle size 8 mm = US 11 as back piece= 110-118-130-138-150-166 stitches on row. Then work body in the round as explained below. BODY: Insert 1 marker thread in each side of body in the transition between front piece and back piece. Move marker threads upwards when working. Use them later when decreasing and increasing in the piece. Continue A.1 in the round as before but work 2 ridges in GARTER STITCH over the middle 6 stitches in each side (over vent). When these 2 ridges are done, continue A.1 in the round over all stitches. When piece measures approx. 28-28-29-29-30-30 cm = 11"-11"-11⅜"-11⅜"-11¾"-11¾" from cast-on edge, decrease 8 stitches evenly – read DECREASE/INCREASE TIP, but adjust to decrease in a section with stockinette stitch in A.1, and to decrease 4 stitches on front piece and 4 stitches on back piece = 102-110-122-130-142-158 stitches on needle. Repeat decrease when piece measures approx. 32-32-33-33-34-34 cm = 12½"-12½"-13"-13"-13⅜"-13⅜" = 94-102-114-122-134-150 stitches on needle. When piece measures approx. 38-38-39-39-40-40 cm = 15"-15"-15¼"-15¼"-15¾"-15¾" from cast-on edge, increase 4 stitches evenly – read DECREASE/INCREASE TIP, but adjust to increase in a section with stockinette stitch in A.1, and to increase 2 stitches on front piece and 2 stitches on back piece = 98-106-118-126-138-154 stitches on needle. Repeat increase when piece measures 42-42-44-44-46-46 cm = 16½"-16½"-17¼"-17¼"-18"-18" = 102-110-122-130-142-158 stitches on needle. When piece measures 46-47-48-49-50-51 cm = 18"-18½"-19"-19¼"-19¾"-20", bind off for armholes, i.e. work next round as follows: Begin 3-4-5-6-8-11 stitches before marker thread at the beginning of round, bind off 6-8-10-12-16-22 stitches, work as before until 3-4-5-6-8-11 stitches remain before next marker thread, bind off 6-8-10-12-16-22 stitches, and work as before the rest of round. Finish front and back piece separately as explained below. FRONT PIECE: = 45-47-51-53-55-57 stitches. Continue A.1 back and forth as before with 1 edge stitch in garter stitch in each side. When piece measures 58-60-61-63-64-66 cm = 22¾"-23⅝"-24"-24¾"-25¼"-26", slip the middle 9-9-9-11-11-11 stitches on 1 stitch holder for neck and finish each shoulder separately. Continue as before and bind off for neck at the beginning of every row from neck as follows: Bind off 2 stitches 1 time and 1 stitch 3 times = 13-14-16-16-17-18 stitches remain on shoulder. Continue until piece measures 66-68-70-72-74-76 cm = 26"-26¾"-27½"-28⅜"-29⅛"-29½", and bind off. Work the other shoulder the same way. BACK PIECE: = 45-47-51-53-55-57 stitches. Continue A.1 back and forth as before with 1 edge stitch in garter stitch in each side. When piece measures 64-66-68-70-72-74 cm = 25¼"-26"-26¾"-27½"-28⅜"-29⅛" from cast-on edge, bind off the middle 17-17-17-19-19-19 stitches for neck and finish each shoulder separately. Then work as before and bind off 1 stitch on next row from the neck = 13-14-16-16-17-18 stitches remain on shoulder. Continue until piece measures 66-68-70-72-74-76 cm = 26"-26¾"-27½"-28⅜"-29⅛"-29½", and bind off. Work the other shoulder the same way. SLEEVE: Work sleeve in the round on double pointed needles, bottom up. Switch to a short circular needle when increasing. Cast on 38-40-42-44-46-48 stitches on double pointed needles size 7 mm = US 10,75 with Snow. Knit 1 round. Then work rib in the round (= knit 1/purl 1) for 10 cm = 4". Switch to double pointed needles size 8 mm = US 11. Knit 1 round while decreasing 4 stitches evenly = 34-36-38-40-42-44 stitches. Insert 1 marker thread at beginning of round = mid under sleeve. Move the marker thread upwards when working; it should be used for increase later. Work A.1 in the round. When piece measures 34-33-32-32-30-27 cm = 13⅜"-13"-12½"-12½"-11¾"-10⅝" (shorter measurements in the larger sizes because of wider shoulders and longer sleeve cap), increase 2 stitches mid under sleeve - read INCREASE TIP. Increase like this every 4 cm = 1½" 4 times in total = 42-44-46-48-50-52 stitches. When sleeve measures 50-49-48-48-46-43 cm = 19¾"-19¼"-19"-19"-18"-17", work the rest of sleeve (i.e. sleeve cap) back and forth on circular needle until finished measurements. When ½-1-2-3-5-7 cm = 1/8-⅜"-¾"-1⅛"-2"-2¾" have been worked from division for sleeve cap, work 4 rows in stockinette stitch back and forth while binding off 5 stitches at the beginning of these 4 rows. Bind off the remaining 22-24-26-28-30-32 stitches. Sleeve measures approx. 53 cm = 21" in all sizes from the top down, and there is a vent at the top of sleeve of approx. 3-4-5-5-7-10 cm = 1⅛"-1½"-2"-2"-2¾"-4". Work the other sleeve the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew shoulder seams inside bind-off edge. Sew sleeve cap to armhole and sew vent at the top of sleeve to the bottom of armhole - see chart. HIGH COLLAR: Begin by shoulder in one side of piece and pick up approx. 46 to 52 stitches around the neck (including stitches on stitch holders at the front) on circular needle size 7 mm = US 10,75 with Snow. Knit 1 round while increasing evenly to 58-60-62-64-66-68 stitches. Work rib in the round = knit 1/purl 1 for 10-10-11-11-12-12 cm = 4"-4"-4⅜"-4⅜"-4¾"-4¾". Loosely bind off stitches with knit over knit and purl over purl. |
