------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- CROCHET TIP FOR CHAIN STITCH: If you work outermost on the hook the chain stitch will often be too tight; 1 chain stitch should be as long as 1 double crochet is wide. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.5. Diagram A.2 shows how the first stitch in A.3 is worked at the beginning and end of the round. 2 TREBLE CROCHETS TOGETHER: Work 2 treble crochets in the next stitch but wait with the last yarn over and pull-through on each of these treble crochets, make 1 yarn over and pull it through all the loops on the hook. 2 TRIPLE-TREBLE CROCHETS TOGETHER: Work 2 triple-treble crochets in the next stitch but wait with the last yarn over and pull-through on each of these triple-treble crochets, make 1 yarn over and pull it through all loops on the hook. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- TRIVET – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked from the middle outwards according to the diagrams. It is felted in the washing machine to finish. TRIVET: Use crochet hook size 5 mm and Alaska. Read CROCHET TIP FOR CHAIN STITCH in explanations above. Work diagram A.1 = 16 double crochets and 1 chain stitch from the beginning of the round. Then work diagram A.3 (= 4 repeats), diagram A.2 shows how the first stitch in A.3 is worked and how the round finishes. On the last round in the diagram increase 12 double crochets evenly spaced on the round = 140 stitches. Work diagram A.4 over the first 7 stitches (1 repeat), then A.5 to the end of the round (= 19 repeats; a total of 20 repeats of A.4 and A.5). Cut and fasten the strand securely. FELTING: Place the trivet in the washing machine together with a towel and using a detergent without enzymes or optical bleaches. Wash at 40 degrees with normal centrifuge and without pre-wash. After washing, shape the trivet while still wet. Later wash as a normal wool garment. AFTER FELTING: If the piece is not felted enough and is too big: Wash the piece one more time in the washing machine while it is still wet add a terry towel that measures approx. 50 x 70 cm - NOTE: Do not use a short program. If the piece has been felted too much and is too small: While the piece is still wet stretch it to the correct measurements, if the piece is dry, make sure to soak it first. Remember: All subsequent washes are as a normal wool garment. |
