---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge vertically = knit 2 rows. GARTER STITCH (in the round): 1 ridge vertically = 2 rounds, i.e. knit 1 round and purl 1 round. INCREASE TIP-1 (evenly): To calculate how to increase evenly, use the total number of stitches on row (e.g. 90 stitches) and divide stitches by number of increases to be done (e.g. 4) = 22.5. In this example increase by making 1 yarn over after alternately every 22nd and 23rd stitch. On next row work yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. INCREASE TIP-2 (applies to sides of body): Work until 2 stitches remain before marker thread, 1 yarn over, knit 4 (marker thread is in the middle of these stitches), 1 yarn over. On next row purl yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. Then work the new stitches in stocking stitch. STRIPES: Work 2 cm with off white in all sizes, work 4-4-4-5-5-5 cm with light sea green, work 4-4-4-5-5-5 cm off white and work 4-4-4-5-5-5 cm with light sea green. Then work the rest of piece in off white in all sizes. RAGLAN: Increase 1 stitch in each side of 1 stitch in every transition between body and sleeves (= 8 stitches increased on row). Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over. On next row purl yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. Then work the new stitches in stocking stitch. DECREASE TIP (applies to sleeves): Decrease 1 stitch on each side of marker thread as follows: Work until 3 stitches remain before marker thread, slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked, knit 2 (marker thread is in the middle of these stitches), knit the next 2 stitches together (= 2 stitches decreased). BUTTONHOLES: Decrease for buttonholes on right band (when garment is worn). Decrease from right side when 3 stitches remain on row as follows: Make 1 yarn over, knit the next 2 stitches together, knit last stitch. On next row knit yarn over to make holes. Decrease first buttonhole straight after ridges in the neck (piece measures approx. 2 cm). Then decrease the next 4-4-4-5-5-5 approx. 8 cm between each buttonhole. ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- JACKET - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: Work back and forth on circular needle from mid front, work top down. Work sleeves in the round on double pointed needles. YOKE: Cast on 90-98-106-110-110-114 stitches on circular needle size 4.5 mm with off white. Work 3 ridges in GARTER STITCH - read explanation above. Switch to circular needle size 5 mm, knit 1 row from right side while increasing 4 stitches evenly - read INCREASE TIP-1. = 94-102-110-114-114-118 stitches. Purl 1 row from wrong side with 3 band stitches in GARTER STITCH - read explanation above, in each side. Insert 4 marker threads in piece (without working the stitches): Insert 1st marker thread in 20th-21st-23rd-24th-25th-26th stitch on row, insert 2nd marker thread in 31st-34th-36th-37th-36th-37th stitch on needle, insert 3rd marker thread in 64th-69th-75th-78th-79th-82nd stitch on needle and insert 4th marker thread in 75th-82nd-88th-91st-90th-93rd stitch on needle. There are now 19-20-22-23-24-25 stitches between stitches with marker thread on each front piece, 32-34-38-40-42-44 stitches on back piece and 10-12-12-12-10-10 stitches on each sleeve. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! REMEMBER BUTTONHOLES on right band - see explanation above. Work next row as follows from right side: 3 band stitches in garter stitch, stocking stitch over the next 16-17-19-20-21-22 stitches, increase 1 stitch on each side of 1st marker thread for RAGLAN – see explanation above, work stocking stitch over the next 10-12-12-12-10-10 stitches on sleeve, increase 1 stitch on each side of 2nd marker thread, work stocking stitch over the 32-34-38-40-42-44 stitches on back piece, increase 1 stitch on each side of 3rd marker thread, work stocking stitch over the 10-12-12-12-10-10 stitches on sleeve, increase 1 stitch on each side of 4th marker thread, work stocking stitch over the next 16-17-19-20-21-22 stitches on front piece and finish with 3 band stitches in garter stitch. Then work STRIPES - read explanation above - and stocking stitch with band stitches in garter stitch and increase for raglan at every marker thread as follows: Increase 1 stitch on each side of stitch with marker on every other row (i.e. every row from right side) 19-20-21-24-27-30 times in total (first increase is already done). Then increase 1 more time but only on sleeves as follows: Increase 1 stitch after 1st marker and 1 stitch before 2nd marker, increase 1 stitch after 3rd marker and 1 stitch before 4th marker. The increase has been done 20-21-22-25-28-31 times on sleeves. There are 250-266-282-310-334-362 stitches on row and piece measures approx. 20-21-22-25-27-30 cm from cast-on edge (measured mid front). Work next row as follows from wrong side: Work the first 39-41-44-48-52-56 stitches as before (= right front piece), slip the next 50-54-56-62-66-72 stitches on 1 stitch holder for sleeve, cast on 6-6-8-8-10-12 new stitches on needle (= in the side under sleeve), work the next 72-76-82-90-98-106 stitches as before (= back piece), slip the next 50-54-56-62-66-72 stitches on 1 stitch holder for sleeve, cast on 6-6-8-8-10-12 new stitches on needle (= in the side under sleeve) and work the remaining 39-41-44-48-52-56 stitches as before. Finish body and sleeves separately. Remove the marker threads in piece. NOW MEASURE PIECE FROM HERE! BODY: = 162-170-186-202-222-242 stitches. Insert 1 marker thread in the middle of the 6-6-8-8-10-12 stitches cast on under each sleeve and move the marker threads upwards when working. Continue back and forth in stocking stitch with 3 band stitches in garter stitch in each side. When piece measures 2 cm from division, increase 2 stitches in each side - read INCREASE TIP-2 (= 4 stitches increased). Increase like this every 3½ cm 7 times in total in all sizes = 190-198-214-230-250-270 stitches. When piece measures 30-31-32-29-31-30 cm from division, switch to circular needle size 4.5 mm. Work 3 ridges, switch back to circular needle size 5 mm and cast off by knitting from right side. Jacket measures approx. 52-54-56-58-60-62 cm from shoulder and down. SLEEVE: Slip the 50-54-56-62-66-72 stitches from stitch holder in one side of piece on double pointed needles size 5 mm and pick in addition up 1 new stitch in each of the 6-6-8-8-10-12 stitches cast on under sleeve = 56-60-64-70-76-84 stitches on round. Work in stocking stitch in the round. Insert a marker mid under sleeve. When piece measures 2 cm in all sizes, decrease 1 stitch on each side of marker - read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 8th-7th-6th-5th-4th-3rd round 7-8-9-11-12-13 times in total = 42-44-46-48-52-58 stitches on round. Work until piece measures 29-29-28-26-24-22 cm from division (shorter measurements in the larger sizes because of longer yoke). Switch to double pointed needles size 4.5 mm and work 3 ridges. Switch back to double pointed needles size 5 mm and cast off by knitting. Work the other sleeve the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew the buttons on to the left band. |
