EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN:

-------------------------------------------------------

STRIPES:
When working stripes it is important that the strand ends left after changing colours are approx. 7 cm long. They are used when sewing the slipper together.
Work * 2 rows curry, 2 rows off white, 2 rows dark pink, 2 rows old pink, * work from *-* 1 more time.

START THE PIECE HERE:

-------------------------------------------------------

SLIPPER - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE:
The slipper is worked in one piece with a seam mid front and back; you start working at the top, mid top of instep - SEE SKETCH.

SLIPPER:
Cast on 3-3-5-5 stitches with needle size 8 mm and old pink. Work stocking stitch back and forth, while increasing for toe and heel as follows:
Knit and cast on 4 stitches at the end of the row from the right side. Purl 1 row from the wrong side = 7-7-9-9 stitches.
Knit and cast on 4 stitches at the end of the row from the right side. Purl 1 row from the wrong side, and cast on 14-18-18-22 stitches at the end of the row = 25-29-31-35 stitches.
Work 2 stitches in the first stitch, knit to end of row and cast on 2 stitches at the end of the row from the right side. Purl 1 row from the wrong side = 28-32-34-38 stitches.
Work 2 stitches in the first stitch, knit to end of row and cast on 2 stitches at the end of the row from the right side. Purl 1 row from the wrong side = 31-35-37-41 stitches.
Knit and cast on 2 stitches at the end of the row from the right side. Purl 1 row from the wrong side. After all the increases there are 33-37-39-43 stitches on the needle. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Now work in STRIPES from here – see description above. When the stripes are finished continue with dark pink.
When the piece measures 14-15-15-17 cm, work one short row as follows from the right side: Knit the first 21-25-25-29 stitches, turn and purl 1 row from the wrong side.
When the piece measures 18-20-20-22 cm insert a marker thread = mid under foot.
Work until the piece measures 22-25-25-27 cm and repeat the short row again here.
When you have worked the same length after the marker thread as you had before the marker thread, continue with stripes as on the other side of the foot, but in reverse so that the stripes are the same on either side of the sole. When the stripes are finished continue with old pink AT THE SAME TIME as you cast off stitches as follows from the wrong side:
Cast off 2 stitches at the beginning of the row from the wrong side and purl to end of row. Knit 1 row from the right side = 31-35-37-41 stitches.
Cast off 2 stitches at the beginning of the row from the wrong side, purl until you have 2 stitches left and purl these together. Knit 1 row the right side = 28-32-34-38 stitches.
Cast off 2 stitches at the beginning of the row from the wrong side, purl until there are 2 stitches left and purl these together = 25-29-31-35 stitches. Turn and cast off the first 14-18-18-22 stitches from the right side, knit to the end of row = 11-11-13-13 stitches.
Cast off 4 stitches at the beginning of the row from the wrong side and purl to the end of row = 7-7-9-9 stitches. Knit 1 row from right side.
Cast off 4 stitches at the beginning of the row from the wrong side and purl to the end of row = 3-3-5-5 stitches. Knit 1 row from the right side. Cast off with knit on next row from the wrong side.

ASSEMBLY:
It is easiest to sew the slipper together from the wrong side. The sketch shows the fold mid underneath and the sides which are sewn front and back (= A is sewn to B).
Fold the slipper mid under foot (at marker). Start by tying the strand ends hanging from the stripes on the one side together with the strand ends hanging from the stripes on the other side. Make sure the stripes match neatly (check from the right side as you go), but also sew a few stitches before fastening the ends well. Use old pink to sew the slipper where there are no stripes (= top and bottom front of foot). Sew mid back and try to sew so that the seam is flat and least visible from the right side.

Work 1 more slipper in the same way.

FELTING:
Put the slippers in the washing machine with a detergent without enzymes or optical bleaches. Wash at 40 degrees with normal centrifuge and without pre-wash. Afterwards put the slippers on and shape them to the right size while still wet. Later wash as normal wool items.
