EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN:

----------------------------------------------------------

GARTER STITCH (back and forth):
Knit all rows (1 ridge = 2 knitted rows).

----------------------------------------------------------

START THE PIECE HERE:

----------------------------------------------------------

SHAWL - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE:
Work back and forth, top down on circular needle in GARTER STITCH - see explanation above. Knit yarn overs to make holes when increasing.

SHAWL:
Cast on 9 stitches on circular needle size 3.5 mm with light grey. Knit 1 row.
On next row work as follows:
ROW 1 (= right side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 1, 1 yarn over and knit the rest of stitches (= 2 stitches increased).
ROW 2 (= wrong side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 1, 1 yarn over and knit the rest of stitches (= 2 stitches increased).

Work ROWS 1-2 5 times in total = 29 stitches. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION!

ROW 3 (= right side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 1, 1 yarn over, knit 1, * 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, 1 yarn over, knit 1 *, work from *-* 8 times in total and knit 3 (= 10 stitches increased), 39 stitches on needle.
ROW 4 (= wrong side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 1, 1 yarn over and knit the rest of stitches (= 2 stitches increased) = 41 stitches on needle.

Work ROWS 1-2 10 times in total = 81 stitches on needle.

ROW 5 (= right side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 1, 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, * 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, 1 yarn over, knit 1 *, work from *-* 25 times in total and knit 3 (= 27 stitches increased) = 108 stitches on needle.
ROW 6 (= wrong side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 1, 1 yarn over and knit the rest of stitches (= 2 stitches increased) = 110 stitches on needle.

Work ROWS 1-2 15 times in total = 170 stitches on needle.

ROW 7 (= right side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 1, 1 yarn over, knit 1, * 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, 1 yarn over, knit 1 *, work from *-* 55 times in total and knit 3 (= 57 stitches increased) = 227 stitches on needle.
ROW 8 (= wrong side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 1, 1 yarn over and knit the rest of stitches (= 2 stitches increased) = 229 stitches on needle.

Now work stripes with alternately 1 ridge light old pink and 1 ridge light grey. To move the strands up the piece work with both strands at beginning of row.
Begin with light old pink and work as follows:
ROW 9 (= right side): Use both colours: Make 1 yarn over and knit 1 stitch with both colours Remove the colour not used, 1 yarn over and knit the rest of the stitches (= 2 stitches increased).
ROW 10 (= wrong side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 1, 1 yarn over and knit the rest of stitches (= 2 stitches increased).

* Switch to light grey and work ROWS 9-10. Switch to light old pink and work ROWS 9-10 *. Work from *-* 10 times in total = 11 ridges light old pink and 10 ridges light grey in total. There are 313 stitches on needle and the strand in light old pink can be cut and fastened.

Continue with light grey.
ROW 11 (= right side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 1, 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, * 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, 1 yarn over, knit 1 *, work from *-* 102 times in total and knit 4 (= 104 stitches increased), 417 stitches on needle.
ROW 12 (= wrong side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 1, 1 yarn over and knit the rest of stitches (= 2 stitches increased) = 419 stitches on needle.

Now work stripes with alternately 1 ridge grey and 1 ridge light grey. To move the strands up the piece work with both strands at beginning of row.
Begin with grey and work as follows:
ROW 13 (= right side): Use both colours: Make 1 yarn over and knit 1 stitch with both colours Remove the colour not used, 1 yarn over and knit the rest of the stitches (= 2 stitches increased).
ROW 14 (= wrong side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 1, 1 yarn over and knit the rest of stitches (= 2 stitches increased).

* Switch to light grey and work ROWS 13-14. Switch to grey and work ROWS 13-14 *. Work from *-* 5 times in total = 6 ridges grey and 5 ridges light grey in total. There are 463 stitches on needle and the strand in light grey can be cut and fastened.

Continue with grey and work ROWS 1-2 25 times more in total = 25 ridges with grey. There are 563 stitches on needle and the strand in grey can be cut and fastened.

CAST-OFF WITH PICOT:
Switch to old pink and loosely cast off from right side as follows:
Knit 1, * insert right needle between the first 2 stitches on left needle (i.e. between stitches on needle, not through stitches), make 1 yarn over on right needle, pull yarn over forward between the stitches and slip yarn over on to left needle *, work from *-* 3 times in total (= 3 new stitches on left needle), knit and cast of the next 6 stitches 1 by 1 (= 1st stitch on right needle + 3 yarn overs and 2 stitches from left needle). Now continue to work from *-* + cast off 6 stitches the same way along the entire cast-off until there are no stitches left to make a new picot and cast off the remaining stitches. Cut the yarn and pull it through the last stitch, tighten tog and fasten.

I did get the text online!!! It still says the same thing online

Janet Fennings 31.07.2019 - 15:27:

My pattern doesn't say that!!! Before the repeats it says' Make 1 yarn over, knit1, 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, 1 yarn over, knit 1. That needs 6 stitches not 3! Is the pattern wrong?

DROPS Design 01.08.2019 kl. 09:10:

Hello Janet. In case of any doubt, please always refer to the text online. Happy knitting!

Janet Fennings 31.07.2019 - 12:05:

Is there anybody there to answer my previous question please?

DROPS Design 31.07.2019 kl. 14:38:

Hello Janet. You start row 5 with 81 sts. You need 3 sts before you start the repeats (make 1 yarn over, knit 1, 1 yarn over, knit 2 together = 3 sts and 2 yarn overs); you then need 3 x 25 = 75 sts for the repeats. That makes a total of 78 sts; so you can then knit the remaining 3 sts. Happy knitting!

Janet 26.07.2019 - 22:53:

I'm having trouble with row 5. There aren't enough stitches to do everything in the pattern. You need 6 stitches before the repeats start and then 25x3 for the repeats. That makes 81 which is the number of stitches that you have but it then says knit 3. You can't knit the last 3 as there are no stitches left!!

Myriam 11.07.2019 - 09:48:
