INFORMATION FOR THE PATTERN:

RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth):
1 ridge = Knit 2 rows.

PATTERN:
See diagrams A.1 to A.5. The diagrams show all the rows in the pattern seen from the right side.
----------------------------------------------------------

PONCHO:
The piece is worked in 2 parts and is sewn together at the end. Each part is worked back and forth with circular needle.

PART 1:
Cast on 98-106-114 stitches with circular needle size 4.5 mm / US 7 and 2 strands Baby Merino.
Work 3 RIDGES – see description above, on the last row increase 10 stitches evenly on row = 108-116-124 stitches. Change to circular needle size 5 mm / US 8.
The next row is worked as follows from the right side: Work 5 stitches garter stitch, A.1 (= 8 stitches) over the next 8-16-16 stitches, A.2 (= 44 stitches), A.1 over the next 8-8-16 stitches, A.3 (= 15 stitches), A.4 (= 11 stitches), A.5 (= 12 stitches) and finish with 5 stitches garter stitch. Continue the pattern in this way. REMEMBER THE GAUGE! When the piece measures 82-88-95 cm / 32 1/4"-34½"-37½"'', change to circular needle size 4.5 mm / US 7 and work 3 ridges. Then bind off. The piece measures 84-90-97 cm / 33"-36½"-38 1/4''.

PART 2: Cast on and work as for part 1.

ASSEMBLY:
Lay the bind off edge on part 1 against the right long-side of part 2 - from the bottom towards the cast-on edge and approx. 56-60-65 cm / 22"-23½"-25½'' upwards – make sure you do not stretch the piece. Sew the 2 parts together with small, neat stitches. Then sew the bind-off edge on part 2 together with the right side of part 1 in the same way.

Diagram

= knit from right side, purl from wrong side
= purl from right side, knit from wrong side
= knit 2 stitches together
= slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1, pass the slipped stitch over
= between 2 stitches make 1 yarn over
= bubble: work as follows in the same stitch: Knit 1, 1 yarn over, knit 1, 1 yarn over, knit 1 (= 5 stitches), turn the piece. Work 4 rows stocking stitch over these 5 stitches. Then pass the 2nd stitch on right needle over the first stitch, then the 3rd stitch over the first stitch, so the 4th stitch over the first stitch and finally the 5th stitch over the first stitch (= 1 stitch left)
= place 3 stitches on cable needle behind the piece, knit 3, knit 3 from cable needle
= place 3 stitches on cable needle in front of piece, knit 3, knit 3 from cable needle
= place 4 stitches on cable needle behind the piece, knit 4, knit 4 from cable needle
