GARTER ST (back and forth on needle):
K all rows. 1 ridge = 2 rows K.

INCREASE TIP:
Inc from RS by making 1 YO, on next row P YO twisted to avoid holes. Inc alternately before both markers on the middle of shawl and next time after both markers. Inc in addition inside outermost st in each side. I.e. 4 sts inc on every row with inc.
--------------------------------------------------------

SHAWL:
Cast on 7 sts on circular needle size 5 mm/ US 8 with 1 strand Fabel and 1 strand Kid-Silk. Insert 1 marker in 3rd and 5th st. K 1 row from WS.
Continue in stockinette - work outermost st in each side in GARTER ST - read explanation above.
AT THE SAME TIME inc 1 st inside outermost st in each side and 1 st at each of the 2 markers – SEE INCREASE TIP.
Repeat inc every row from RS until piece measures approx. 30 cm/11¾” (adjust so that last row is worked from RS).
REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE!
** Switch to circular needle size 4 mm/US 6. Then K 1 row from WS over all sts. On next row K from RS with inc as before, then K 1 row from WS.
Switch back to circular needle size 5 mm/US 8.
Cut the strand of Kid-Silk and continue with only 1 strand Fabel as follows: Divide all sts in two and K 1 in each of the 2 strands in every st, i.e. double the no of sts.
Then work in stockinette (with 1 st in garter st at the edge in each side) for approx. 5 cm/2” - NOTE: Continue inc as before.
When 5 cm/2” have been worked, work with the Kid-Silk strand again, switch to circular needle size 4 mm/US 6.
Work next row as follows from RS: K 1, * K 2 tog, K 2 tog, K 1 *, repeat from *-* the rest of row (make sure that 1 or 2 K sts at the outer edge are not worked tog).
Then K 3 rows back and forth with inc as before.
Switch to circular needle size 5 mm/US 8 and work in stockinette and inc as before for 8 cm/ 3 1/8” **.
Repeat from **-** 1 more time.
Piece now measures approx. 60 cm/23½”.
Switch to circular needle size 4 mm/US 6, K 3 rows back and forth (1st row = WS), inc on RS rows as before.
Switch to circular needle size 5 mm/US 8, cut the strand of Fabel and finish the piece with only 1 strand Kid-Silk.
On first row divide all sts in two, K 1 in each of the 2 strands in every st.
Work 7 cm/2¾” in stockinette back and forth with 1 st at the edge of each side in garter st - at the same time inc only inside 1 st at the edge in each side, no longer at the 2 markers, finish after 1 row from RS. Then K 3 rows back and forth over all sts.
Work with the Fabel strand again and bind off with K sts from RS with both strands.
Shawl measures approx. 68 cm/26¾” vertically and 140 cm/ 55” in width at the top.

Je me trompe?

Diane Kirshner 04.10.2012 - 16:42:

I am finding the increase tip confusing on this pattern. I don't have a clear picture of what this tip means: Inc alternately before both markers on the middle of the shawl and next time after both markers. At this rate, the outer sections will increace faster than the center section. Is that as it should be?

DROPS Design 14.11.2012 kl. 16:44:

Dear Mrs Kirshner, you will inc 4 sts every RS row : 1 st at the beg of row + 1 st at the end of row + 1 st at each of the both markers. The first inc at marker will be done before the markers, the next inc will be done after the markers. Repeat these both inc before/after markers each time. Happy knitting!
