Pattern instructions

NOTE: This pattern is written in British English. All measurements in charts are in cm. For conversion from cm to inches - click here. There are different terms for crocheting in British and American English. If this pattern includes crochet, click for "crochet terms" here. For this pattern in American English, please click here.
KNITTING TIP:
Work the first 2 sts on row (seen from RS) in GARTER ST until finished measurements to avoid the edge from curling up.

GARTER ST (back and forth on needle): K all rows.

PATTERN:
See diagram M.1 and M.2. 1 square in chart = 2 rows.

INCREASE TIP (from RS):
Work until 1 st remains. Inc 1 st by getting the thread between 2 sts from previous row - K this st twisted, i.e. work in back loop of st instead of front to avoid holes.

DECREASE TIP (from RS):
Work until 3 sts remain. Dec by K 2 sts tog.
---------------------------------------------------------

SHAWL:
Cast on 4 sts on circular needle size 4 mm with 1 thread Cotton Viscose and 1 thread Lace. 1st row = RS. Read KNITTING TIP. Work chart M.1 - see explanation above, while AT THE SAME TIME inc at end of every 4th row - see INCREASE TIP. When piece measures approx. 40 cm from cast on edge, work 2 rows without inc. Then work chart M.2 - while AT THE SAME TIME dec 1 st at end of every 4th row - see DECREASE TIP above.
Cast off when 4 sts remain.

CROCHET EDGE:
From RS crochet an edge around the shawl. Use Cotton Viscose and hook size 3.5 mm.
ROW 1: * 1 dc, 4 ch, skip 1 cm *, repeat from *-*.
ROW 2: Work sl st to first ch-loop, 1 dc, ch 5, * 1 dc in next ch-loop, ch 5 *, repeat from *-* around, finish with 1 sl st in 1st dc. In the ch-loop in each corner work from *-* 2 times.
ROW 3: Work sl st to first ch-loop, 1 dc, ch 6, * 1 dc in next ch-loop, ch 6 *, repeat from *-* around, finish with 1 sl st in 1st dc. In the ch-loop in each corner work from *-* 2 times.

BLOCKING:
Place the shawl in lukewarm water until it is soaking wet. Carefully squeeze the water out of the shawl - do not twist the shawl - then roll the shawl in a towel and squeeze to remove more water - the shawl will now only be moist. Place the shawl on a carpet or mattress - carefully stretch it out to size and fasten it with pins in every ch-loop. Leave to dry. Repeat the process when the garment has been washed.

Belgique: je truve ce petit foulard très léger et très beau, j'espère qu'il y aura un fil de coton de couleur vive pour en faire un accessoire à assortir.
