Knitted DROPS shawl with lace pattern in ”Lace”.
DROPS 137-4 |
||||||||||||||||
GARTER ST (back and forth on needle): K all rows. PATTERN: See diagrams M.1 to M.3. Diagrams show pattern from RS. KNITTING TIP: 1 repetition in width is marked in diagrams M.2 and M.3 – make sure to make the same no of YOs as sts dec in one repetition so that no of sts does not vary. -------------------------------------------------------- SHAWL: The piece is worked back and forth on circular needle because of no of sts. Cast on 3 sts on circular needle size 3.5 mm / US 4 with Lace. K 6 rows. At the end of 6th row do not turn piece but rotate 90 degrees clockwise, pick up 3 sts along the edge (i.e. 1 st in every ridge (1 ridge = 2 rows in garter st)), rotate piece again, 90 degrees clockwise and pick up 3 sts along cast on edge (i.e. 1 st in every st) = 9 sts on needle. Then work as follows: Row 1 (= WS): K 3, P 3 and K 3. Row 2 (= RS): K 3, 1 YO, K 1, 1 YO, K 1, 1 YO, K 1, 1 YO, K 3 = 13 sts on needle. Row 3 (= WS): K 3, P 7 and K 3. Now work lace pattern according to diagram. I.e. work every row from RS as follows: Work diagram M.1 (i.e. 3 edge sts and lace pattern with inc), work 1 st in stockinette st (= mid st) and then work diagram M.1 again but reversed from the middle. Work every row from WS as follows: 3 edge sts in garter st, P until 3 sts remain and finish with 3 edge sts in garter st. When diagram M.1 has been worked 1 time vertically, there are 57 sts on needle, i.e. a total of 44 sts have been inc and pattern fits one extra repetition – this will happen automatically when working according to diagram. When diagram M.1 has been worked 1 time vertically, work diagram M.2 the same way until shawl has the desired measurements (shawl on picture has 14 repetitions of diagram M.2 vertically) – READ KNITTING TIP. Then work diagram M.3 one time (make sure that 1 whole repetition of diagram M.2 has been worked vertically before starting diagram M.3). Then bind off as follows – NOTE: It is very important to bind off very LOOSELY otherwise the edge cannot be shaped with small tips: K 2 sts, slip them back on left needle, * K 2 tog (work them loosely tog), pull the st long, slip st back on left needle *, repeat from *-* until all sts have been bind off. Cut and fasten the threads. BLOCKING: Place the shawl in lukewarm water until it is soaking wet. Carefully squeeze the water out of the shawl - do not twist the shawl - then roll the shawl in a towel and squeeze to remove more water - the shawl will now only be moist. Place the shawl on a carpet or mattress - carefully stretch it out to size and fasten it with pins. NOTE: Along the shawl's 2 diagonal sides insert a pin in every repetition where 3 sts were worked tog and 1 pin in mid st (= at the bottom tip on shawl), lightly pull at every pin so that the edge is shaped with small tips. Leave to dry. Repeat the process when the garment has been washed. |
