NOTE: This pattern is written in British English. All measurements in charts are in cm. For conversion from cm to inches - click here. There are different terms for crocheting in British and American English. If this pattern includes crochet, click for "crochet terms" here. For this pattern in American English, please click here.
CROCHET TIP:
Replace first dc at beg of each round with 1 ch and finish each round with 1 sl st in ch from beg of round. Turn each row with 1 ch.

INCREASE TIP:
Inc 1 dc by working 2 dc in second to last st each side.

CROCHET 2 DC TOG:
Decrease 1 dc as follows: Insert hook in dc and pull thread through, insert hook in next dc and pull thread through, make 1 yarn over and pull thread through all 3 loops on hook.

--------------------------------------------------------

BOOKMARK:
First crochet the head, then continue down the body. Then crochet the arms, hat, nose and scarf. Everything is crochet with 1 thread and crochet hook size 2.5 mm.

HEAD:
Work 4 ch with white and form a ring with 1 sl st in first ch.
ROUND 1: 8 dc in ch-ring – see CROCHET TIP!
ROUND 2: 2 dc in each dc = 16 dc.
ROUND 3: * 1 dc in first dc, 2 dc in next dc *, repeat from *-* = 24 dc.
ROUND 4: * 1 dc in each of the first 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc *, repeat from *-* = 32 dc.
Work 8 rounds with 1 dc in each dc.
ROUND 13: * 2 dc, crochet 2 dc tog – see explanation above *, repeat from *-* = 24 dc.
ROUND 14: * 1 dc, crochet 2 dc tog *, repeat from *-* = 16 dc.
ROUND 15: * crochet all dc tog 2 by 2 = 8 dc.
Fill some cotton wool in the head, then crochet opening tog at bottom edge by working 4 dc through both layers - do not cut the thread but continue with the body.

BODY:
Continue working with white back and forth in rows. Work 1 row with 2 dc in each dc = 8 dc. On next row work 1 dc in each dc and at the same time inc 1 dc each side – see INCREASE TIP! Repeat inc on each row a total of 3 times and then on every second row 3 times = 20 dc. Continue working 1 dc in each dc until the body measures 5 cm. On next row dec 1 dc each side by crocheting the 2 next to last st tog – see explanation above! Repeat dec on every second row a total of 5 times = 10 dc. Work 1 row with 1 dc in each dc. On next row inc 1 dc each side again, repeat inc on every row a total of 4 times and then on every second row 5 times = 28 dc. Continue working 1 dc in each dc until the body measures 15 cm. On next row dec 1 dc each side, repeat dec on every second row a total of 5 times and then on every row 4 times = 10 dc. Crochet 1 row working all dc tog 2 by 2 = 5 dc. Cut and fasten the thread.

ARM:
Work 3 dc with black at the top along one side of body, continue working 3 dc in the back of these = a total of 6 dc. Continue working round with 1 dc in each st until the arm measures 6 cm. Continue working 3 dc through both layers. Do not cut the thread but continue with the fingers as follows: 5 ch, turn, skip first ch, continue working 1 dc in each of the next 4 ch, fasten with 1 sl st in first dc at top of arm, * 7 ch, turn, skip the first ch and work 1 dc in each of the next 6 ch on return, 1 sl st in next dc at top of arm *, repeat from *-* one more time, then crochet the last finger as the first, i.e. with 5 ch, lastly fasten this finger in the same dc as next to last finger. There are now 4 fingers, cut and fasten the thread.

Crochet 1 similar arm on the other side of the body.

HAT:
Work 4 ch with black and form a ring with 1 sl st in first ch.
ROUND 1: 8 dc in ch-ring – see CROCHET TIP!
ROUND 2: 2 dc in each dc = 16 dc
ROUND 3: * 1 dc in first dc, 2 dc in next dc *, repeat from *-* = 24 dc.
ROUND 4: 1 dc in each dc – NOTE: Only work the back loop on this round to get an edge where the crown of the hat ends.
Continue working 6 rounds with 1 dc in each dc (working through both loops as usual).
ROUND 11: Work 3 ch, then 2 tr in each dc the rest of the round = 48 tr. Cut and fasten the thread.
Fill some cotton in the hat and sew it to the top of the head.

NOSE:
Work 6 ch with orange and form a ring with 1 sl st in first ch.
ROUND 1: 6 dc in ch-ring.
ROUND 2-3: 1 dc in each dc.
ROUND 4: Work the 2 first dc tog, 1 dc in next dc, work the next 2 dc tog, 1 dc in last dc = 4 dc.
ROUND 5: Crochet all dc tog 2 by 2 = 2 dc. Cut the thread, fill some cotton in the nose and sew it to the middle of the head.

FACE:
Embroider eyes and mouth with black.

SCARF:
Work 4 ch with orange, turn and work 1 dc in each of the 3 last ch. Continue to crochet stripes as follows: * 2 rows with black, 2 rows with orange *, repeat from *-* until the scarf measures approx. 20 cm, cut the thread. Tie the scarf around the snowman's neck.

Steam iron piece lightly so that the body is flattened.
