Pattern instructions

NOTE: This pattern is written in British English. All measurements in charts are in cm. For conversion from cm to inches - click here. Tynn Chenille Gauge: 20 sts and 32 rows in pattern = 10 x 10 cm .
(Cotton Chenille Gauge: 15 sts and 27 rows in pattern = 10 x 10 cm )

Pattern: See chart. (1 chart = 1 repeat). The pattern is seen from the right side.


Garter Stitch, when knitting flat: Knit all sts, all rows.
Garter Stitch, when knitting in the round: *Rnd 1, knit. Rnd 2, purl *. Repeat from * - *.

Buttonholes: When the work measures:
Size 0/3 months: 1 - 7 - 12.5 - 18 - 23.5 cm

Size 6/9 months: 1 - 6.5 - 12.5 - 18.5 - 24.5 cm

Size 12/18 months: 1 - 7.5 - 14 - 21 - 27.5 cm

Size 2 years: 1 - 7.5 - 14.5 - 21.5 - 28.5 cm

Size 3/4 years: 1 - 7 - 13.5 - 20 - 26.5 - 33 cm

Size 5/6 years: 1 - 7.5 - 14.5 - 21.5 - 28.5 - 35.5 cm
bind off the 3rd and 4th sts and cast on 2 new sts over the bound off sts on the next row.

Without shaped armholes:
Body: Instead of binding off for armholes divide the work into 3 parts on the first row of binding off (back = 1/2 of sts, each front = 1/2 of number of sts from the back), knit the work straight up in 3 parts.
Sleeves: At the first binding off each side of marker (for the sleeve-cap) bind off all sts.


Body: Cast on 118-134-142-154-170-186 (90-102- 110-118-130-142) sts (including 5 sts at each edge for the buttonband) on circular needles and knit 4 rows garter st. Then establish the pattern as follows:
Tynn Chenille: 5 sts garter st (buttonband), Pattern 1: 2-2-2-3-3-3 repeats, 18-26-30-18-26-34 sts reverse stockinette st, Pattern 1: 4-4-4-6-6-6 repeats, 18-26-30-18-26-34 sts reverse stockinette st, Pattern 1: 2-2-2-3-3-3 repeats, 5 sts garter st (buttonband).
(Cotton Chenille: 5 sts garter st (buttonband), Pattern 1: 1-1-1-2-2-2 repeats, 22-28-32-18-24-30 sts reverse stockinette st, Pattern 1: 2-2-2-4-4-4 repeats, 22-28-32-18-24-30 sts reverse stockinette st, Pattern 1: 1-1-1-2-2-2 repeats, 5 sts garter st (buttonband).)
Work even in pattern until the piece measures 23-24-27-28-29-31 (23-26-28-30-33-36) cm , knit the next row as follows: 30-34-36-39-43-47 (23-26-28-30-33-36) sts for the front, bind off 4 sts for armhole, 50-58-62-68-76-84 (36-42-46-50-56-62) sts for the back, bind off 4 sts for armhole, 30-34-36-39-43-47 (23-26-28-30-33-36) sts for the front. Knit each part separately.

Front: = 30-34-36-39-43-47 (23-26-28-30-33-36) sts. Bind off for armholes every other row:
Tynn Chenille: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1-1-1-1-1-2 times, 1 st 1-3-3-1-3-3 times = 24-26-28-33-35-37 sts.
(Cotton Chenille: 2 sts 1-2-2-1-2-2 times, 1 st 2-1-2-2-1-3 times = 19-21-22-26-28-29 sts.)
When the work measures 29-30-34-35-39-42 cm bind off for the neck every other row:
Tynn Chenille: 9-8-8-9-9-10 sts 1 time, 3 sts 0-1-1-1-1-1 time, 2 sts 1-1-1-1-2-2 times, 1 st 2-2-3-3-3-3 times.
(Cotton Chenille: 7-8-9-10-11-12 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 2 times.)
Bind off all sts when the work measures 33-35-39- 41-45-48 cm .

Back: = 50-58-62-68-76-84 (36-42-46-50-56-62) sts. Bind off for armholes as on the front = 38-42-46-56- 60-64 (28-32-34-42-46-48) sts. When the work measures 31-33-37-39-43-46 cm , bind off the center 10-14-16-18-22-24 (8-10-12-14-16-18) sts for the neck. Bind off at each neck edge every other row: 2 sts 1 (1) time, 1 st 1 (0) time. Bind off all sts when the work measures 33-35-39-41-45-48 cm .

Sleeves: Cast on 33-33-35-37-37-41 (24-24-26-28- 28-30) sts and knit 4 rows garter st. Then knit Pattern 1, centering the pattern on the sleeve. At the same time, after the garter st inc 1 st on each side:
Tynn Chenille: 5-7-8-9-15-15 times:
Sizes 0/3+6/9 +12/18 mos +2 years: every 5th row
Size 3/4 years: every 4th row
Size 5/6 years: alternately every 4th and 5th row
= 43-47-51-55-67-71 sts.
(Cotton Chenille: 4-5-6-7-11-12 times:
Sizes 0/3 + 6/9 mos.: every 6th row
Sizes 12/18 mos +2 years: every 5th row
Sizes 3/4+5/6 years: alternately every 4th and 5th row =(32-34-38-42-50-54) sts.)

Knit the increased sts into Pattern 1 as you go along. When the work measures 11-14-15-17-21-24 cm , bind off for sleeve caps on each side every other row:
Tynn Chenille: 3 sts 1-1-1-1-2-2 times, 2 sts 1-1-1-2-2-2 times, 1 st 6-7-7-4-3-5 times, 2 sts 1-1-1-2-2-2 times, 3 sts 1-1-1-1-2-2 times.
(Cotton Chenille: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 4-5-5-4-5-7 times, 2 sts 1 time, 3 sts 1 time.)
Bind off all sts. The work measures approx. 17-21-22-23-28-32 cm .

Assembly: Sew shoulder seams. Pick up approx. 60-90 (40-60) sts around the neck on and knit 6 rows garter st and at the same time make 1 buttonhole on the right-hand side on the 1st garter st "ridge" directly over the other buttonholes. Sew sleeve seams. Sew on sleeves and buttons.
